For owners of cats, one of the most pressing question of all is “How do you minimize your cat’s shedding?” One of the downsides to having a cat is obviously the “cat tumbleweeds” of hair that come rolling across your carpet or flooring. They are indeed one of the most hairy animals and in turn are one of the biggest shedders around. So let’s figure out a way to minimize the cat shedding since obviously it is almost impossible to completely prevent the shedding unless you have a hairless cat.

Shedding is a normal process that you can’t stop. This is the natural turn over of your cat’s coat. Some cats shed more often if they spend time outdoors since this is related to the light and dark cycle. The shedding in the spring occurs because of the cat’s need to lose their thick winter covering. Shedding in autumn occurs when to prepare for the winter coat. For an indoor cat, they do tend to shed year-round because in the home we typically do leave lights on until late in the evening. This makes the cycle irregular for your cat and their system is tricked into thinking the seasons are constantly changing. This is why indoor cats shed year round. ‘

The most important method for minimizing cat shedding is quite simply just to brush your cat’s hair on a regular basis. Quite a simple solution for creating less hairballs, that’s for sure. You will want to get a brush for your cat depending on their coat. Long coats typically have knots and tangles just like a human’s hair, and you would be best to use a wire brush or comb with wide teeth. Short coated breeds do well with soft brushes. A cat that does not respond well to your brushing may require a professional grooming every so often. Some groomers are very good at combing out any mats and knots that your cat may have.

Making sure your pet cat has a healthy diet will also help minimize shedding. Proper nutrition for your cat will include fish oil based vitamins, oils, and minerals for your cat. This is a well balanced diet for your cat. Also omega fatty acids help reduce skin irritations and thus the cat will be less likely to scratch. This of course results in less hair being shed.

There is also something that is sold in the pet care section of a store called Shed terminator. It is recommended to give this to your cat daily for an entire month. This formula is said to reduce the amount of shedding your cat has. There are also shed reducers that are sold in pet care stores and you rub it on your cat’s fur against the direction the fur is growing. You apply it for several weeks daily and then less often after those first few weeks. It is said to reduce shedding as well.

Honestly there really is no sure-fire way to stop your cat from shedding at all. Shedding is natural and it is one of those parts of owning a cat you must learn to deal with. All we as cat owners can do is try to minimize the shedding to make your cat’s hair less of a problem in your home.

Taking care of your cat’s paws is an important process of providing pet care for your furry companion. Cats do not always like their paws to be touched or their nails to be clipped, but once your cat is used to this process, it’s a simple and easy process to remember while you are in the process of providing grooming and other type of care for your pet. Caring for your cat’s paws may seem like something that isn’t that important, but it truly is. Your cat deserves to have well taken care of paws.

Of course the most important part of this process is to take care of your cat’s nails. This is always the most sensitive part of caring for your cat’s paws. You will want to trim their nails by having a quality pair of clippers. You will want to squeeze gently on your cat’s paw and they will extend their claws/ nails. You will want to clip your cat’s nails then by cutting the white tip of the nail just before the curl point. This is called the quick and it can hurt your pet if you clip in this area. There is a vein you will want to avoid, it is a pink area and you can see it through the nail.

Also what you will want to be able to do is check between your cat’s toes for foreign objects. You will often find in between your cat’s toes things such as stickers and foxtails. These are common things in a yard where your cat often frolics around. You will then want to pull these objects from in between their toes obviously. You will probably want to use tweezers as this makes the process easier. You can also pull any dirt you can find out to keep your cat’s paws clean.

You will also want to check for any cuts on paw pads. If you do find some cuts and they are small, you can wash them with antibacterial soap. However if you find some large cuts on your pet’s paw, you will definitely want to contact a vet and make an appointment. This large cut may require more care than you can provide and it is always best to have your vet’s opinion and care for this process. You will want to also even just brush through your pets paws gently with a bristle brush as well and get any dirt from their paw hair that you can find. You can also gently shampoo their paws after making sure there are no cuts and take care to shampoo gently.

So taking care of your pet’s paws is an important part of your pet care regime. Your feline friend will thank you for taking care of their paws and making sure they are healthy and happy. The pet care process for your cat is very necessary and taking care of their paws is a prudent and efficient thing to do on a weekly basis.

You will then want to make sure that you have a mat in your sink or bath to ensure your cat won't be slipping and sliding around the tub or sink while you are washing them.

Bathing your cat is something that is not absolutely necessary to do on a weekly basis, but a monthly basis is recommended just to make sure your cat is clean. It’s an excellent way to ensure their hygiene and their cleanliness. To bathe your cat is something that some cats truly do enjoy and an owner can enjoy as well for spoiling their furry friend.

We have some handy tips available for bathing your cat. One important tip is to make sure you have some pet friendly shampoo for your cat. Pet friendly shampoo can be bought in the pet care section of any pet store that you can shop at. Also, if your pet has fleas, you will obviously want to buy pet flea and tick shampoo. You will also want to make sure and go through your pet’s hair and pull out fleas with a pair of tweezers or with your fingers if you can do so gently. You can also brush them out with a wire comb. However, make sure you sterilize the comb when you are done.

After making sure you have the proper supplies to bathe your cat such as pet friendly shampoo, perhaps a wire comb or brush depending on your cat’s fur and what it contains, you can proceed forward. You will then want to make sure that you have a mat in your sink or bath to ensure your cat won’t be slipping and sliding around the tub or sink while you are washing them. You will then want to put some lukewarm water in the sink or tub. About 4 inches is plenty of water for your pet, or you can stop the water when it reaches just above your cat’s paws.

If your cat doesn’t particularly like baths, make sure you can hold the cat gently by the neck to avoid chasing your wet cat around your house without even having given your cat the bath. If your cat is a kitten or a smaller cat, you can use a small plastic cup to pour water on your cat’s fur to get them wet. If you have a larger cat, you can use a plastic pitcher such as you use for tea and pour it over your cat’s fur. Also, a spray nozzle if available would be ideal as well to avoid contact with your pet’s eyes and nose.

Next, you will then want to apply the shampoo to your cat. Rub it gently from your cat’s head, all over their fur, and even back through their tail. Massage the shampoo gently making sure to get it over every inch of your cat. You will then want to rinse your cat off. You can use the same method you used to apply the water to rinse off your cat. Obviously, the ideal way would be to use a spray nozzle so you can try to avoid their eyes and nose. However, the pet shampoo is created so as not to irritate your cat too much if some does get into their eyes or nose.

Of course then you will want to get your cat out of the water and make sure you have a nice towel to dry your cat off! Your cat and you will develop a routine for baths and surely they will grow to love it as will you. These are all excellent tips for when you are going to bathe your cat.

Most people often think that your cat’s eyes are not something you generally have to worry about. However, this is a misconception. Cat’s eyes are very important and you do have to pay attention to their eyes as well. If your cat has healthy eyes, they are moist and clear. If your pet cat has eye problems, we can show you how to point this out and take care of it promptly by contacting your vet of course. Your cat’s eyes are obviously too important to take any risks with.

You need to keep your cat’s eyes under surveillance and try to pay attention for anything strange. Keep your cat’s eyes mucus-free at all times. Infection of the eye does happen and this typically happens when bacteria overgrows on mucus. Use sterile eyewash to keep this area clean and this is very important that you take time to do this several times a day if your cat has mucus in the eye. This is vital in your little kittens who are susceptible to eye discharge resulting from an upper respiratory infection. You must pay attention to this most certainly in all cats though.

You can apply a protective ointment to your cat’s eyes if they seem to be extremely sensitive to water, or shampoo (even if it’s pet friendly shampoo, some pets are still ultra sensitive to this kind as well). You will apply this under their top lid to protect their eyes for the shampoo and water. This will also be imperative if your cat gets upset when getting water and / or shampoo in their eyes.

Something that some pet owners don’t often think of is keeping your pet’s hair out of their eyes often and being diligent with this. Not only because it can impede their view, but for a reason you don’t often think of: cat hair causing scratches. Hair can cause scratches on the cornea of your cat’s eye. Of course this can be permanent eye damage. Long-haired cats must often have the hair near their eyes trimmed and certainly this is important for a cat such as a Persian.

There is also a problem for cat’s eyes that is called “tear staining”. Tear staining is especially noticeable in cats such as Persians and can be unsightly if not taken care of. Typically, tears flow across the eye and proceed to drain through the tear duct. The strange colors at the corners of a cat’s eyes following tear staining which occurs when tears spill out and lay on the hair. It is recommended that you purchase a tear stain removal product and can be found in any pet care store. You will want to use this on your pet’s discolored areas weekly.

These are all important tips to taking care of your cat’s eyes and the common problems that our furry friends have with their eyes. It seems as though their eyes are much more sensitive than previously thought, so taking care of your cat’s eyes is very important to ensure they have healthy sight for their lifetimes.

You and your cat will get used to this process and hopefully enjoy it together after it becomes a routine, especially if you use the fish flavored toothpaste.

Taking care of your cat’s teeth is very important and it is ultimately, of course, up to the owner. Pet care is a very special thing that requires you to be a responsible pet owner and it even allows you to bond with your pet. Although kittens are usually without major teeth issues, after a few years your kitten is of course a cat and have have major teeth issues. Surprisingly, 85 percent of pets which are in the adult stage have periodontal disease. And believe it or not, this is the widest cause of health problems in cats. That is what taking care of your cat’s teeth is so important although many do not even think about it until your vet points it out to you at a visit.

To take care of your cat’s teeth, it is a relatively easy process and only requires about 5-6 minutes of your time. You will need to get some supplies such as scissors, a sterile gause, and believe it or not but they carry cat toothpaste and you will find this item at most pet stores. What you will need to do is then wrap the gauze around your index finger of the hand you typically use to write (right or left obviously) and then put some toothpaste on your fingertip or you can also dip your finger into some sterile solution that is recommended by some vets (please ask your vet for details). However, the cat toothpaste is the most widely used method. Gently rub your finger like a toothbrush in a circular motion on your car’s teeth. The most important area to apply is the gums. Gently massage the gums at while you do this. You do not have to brush the back sides of the teeth.

After your cat has become used to this process, eventually you should be able to use a small toothbrush such as those that toddlers use. There is a trick that some pet owners use on their cats to make this process a little easier on both you and your cat. You can purchase “fish flavored” cat toothpaste at your local pet care store and this of course makes the toothpaste much tastier for your cat and may result in less fidgeting by your cat. This is a win-win situation of course for both you and your cat. Another important part of the process in dental care of your cat is to make sure that there is no bleeding in your cat’s gums. If this occurs, your pet will require more than just the teeth care that you can provide. This is a sign your cat will require dental scaling that only a veterinarian is capable of doing so you will of course need to schedule an appointment for your cat to go as soon as possible.

Since dental care is so imperative for your cat, please make sure that you incorporate this process into your pet cat care regime. Most cat owners do not realize that this is the most common health problem for cats and thus educating yourself and other cat owners as well is very important. You and your cat will get used to this process and hopefully enjoy it together after it becomes a routine, especially if you use the fish flavored toothpaste.

Hairballs are something that cat owners often see in the midst of their day. You can be walking along and see a tumbling ball of something. You soon realize it’s from your cat. Hairballs are a true nuisance for cat owners. As a cat owner it’s quickly realized that if you love your cat it is something you have to learn to deal with and realize that it is part of your cat’s shedding process. Shedding is natural for cats and especially if you have an indoor pet cat.

As an indoor cat owner you know full well the hassles of shedding. It results in the hairballs all around your carpet or floor. You will never fully be able to be rid of the hairballs completely, but you can certainly take steps to minimize hair balls and try to prevent them as much as possible.

The simplest and best remedy to take with your shedding cat is simply to brush their hair daily. This may seem small but only five minutes of brushing your cat’s hair daily can truly result in a huge reduction in the amount of hairballs that your cat produces. You can brush the loose hair from your cat’s coat before it can even make a hairball. If you have a short haired cat, you can brush your furry friend’s coat with with a bristle brush or even a special rubber brush that are sold in pet care sections of stores. If you have a long haired cat, you will want to brush their coat with a wire comb or something similar. Make sure you go through their coats and get rid of any of their loose hairs and it will also help create a slick and shiny top coat.

The next step you can take to prevent hairballs or minimize them, is to feed your cat a diet that is high in vegetable fiber. You can also administer hairball prevention items that are for sale in any pet care section of your local store or you can also get these from your vet. These two steps will help you reduce the amount of hairballs that your purring pal is letting go of in your home. Take to make sure you follow the recommended allowances on the amount of fiber you are allowed to give your cat in their foot and the amount of hairball prevention you use.

An alternative method you can use is to put one tablespoon of petroleum jelly or mineral oil into your cat’s food per 10 pounds of body weight. Most cats weigh about 8 to 10 pounds this is why one tablespoon is typically recommended. This method is excellent for our budget busting cat owners who are conscientious of how much they are spending. Please make sure to weigh your cat just to be sure of their weight before doing this though. Guesses are typically not right and just to be safe. You can never be too cautious in taking proper care of your pet.

These are all useful ways to help prevent hairballs in your cat or to minimize the amount of hairballs. Our furry friends will always shed, but to make our jobs easier as pet owners, we must find ways to make it liveable. It helps our pet as well as us to make sure they have their hair brushed daily and taken care of well and have proper diets and in this process we get the added benefit of cutting down of hairballs.

Grooming your cat is an extremely important part of taking care of your beloved pet cat. Some cat owners do rely on taking their cat to a groomer who can do this and can save you time. However, this process does not save you money. Grooming your cat yourself can be very beneficial to you and your feline friend. This can be enjoyable for you and your pet because you can both bond during this process. And also, it can be beneficial to your pocketbook. Grooming services can become very expensive and so therefore this can be a great savings for you and you can spend that money on something else, even perhaps on buying your cat some yummy treats or whatever you see fit.

To groom your cat is an interesting and fun process for both you and your pet. When you first begin, you will want to make sure you and your cat are both relaxed and prepared for this. If you or your cat are in a bad mood, it’s not going to be a great time for you to groom your cat. A great time to groom your cat is after they have eaten or if they have exercised. Your first few grooming sessions should be short until your pet is accustomed to this process. Make sure you give your pet a lot of love and extra pets during these first sessions to make your feline friend feel comfortable.

To groom your cat you will need to brush your cat’s hair with a brush or comb. This will keep your pet’s hair in excellent condition by removing some of the rubbish and dirt in your cat’s hair as well as this spreads natural oils through your cat’s coat. It also prevents tangles. If you own a short-haired cat, you should only have to brush once per week. Run the a metal comb through the fur from head to tail. Use a bristle brush to remove dead or loose hairs in their coat. For a long haired cat, you will need to brush almost daily. Make sure you comb her legs and belly and untangle any knots. Then you can brush their fur in an upward motion with a bristle brush as recommended. You can brush the tail by parting it down the middle and brushing out on either side.

The next process would be to bathe your cat. Use a mild shampoo that is safe to use on your pet, typically find in the pet care section of any store or pet supply store. Give your pet a good brush before the bath. You will want to place a rubber mat in the sink or tub, wherever you prefer to give your pet a bath. You will want to have it filled about 4 inches with lukewarm water. Try to use a sprayer to get your pet wet so as not to get shampoo or water in their eyes or nose. If no hose, a large container would be fine. Gently put the shampoo into your cat’s hair and get every inch of their body. Rinse with the spray and avoid the eyes, ears, and nose.

Also, it will be important to clip your cat’s nails. This process can be the trickiest part of grooming your pet so be sure and do this gently. As you well know, some animals are extremely sensitive about this process. To begin the process, you will then be able to apply pressure to the top of the foot, this causes your cat to extend the claw. Use quality nail scissors to cut off the white tip of the nail, just before the point it curls. Avoid the “quick”, that is the vein that runs into the nail. It’s pink and you can see this area through the nail. This would obviously cause your pet some pain. If you happen to do this on accident, you can apply some styptic power to stop the bleeding.

Grooming your pet is such an important part of pet care and your cat will love you for it.

You can bond with your cat and enjoy this process together. You can also save some money doing it for yourself and not paying a grooming service.

As cat owners, we know that our cats shed quite often without much regard to their owners. Of course, this is because it is a natural process for all cats. If your pet cat is indoors most of the time, then your cat will likely shed all year around. If your cat is an outdoor cat, likely then your cat will shed during the winter and then again in the fall to account for the light and dark cycle. Regardless, cat shedding is a huge problem that many cat owners have tried to resolve. However, all you can truly do is minimize this process. A new question that has been brought about now though, is whether to use a cat shedding brush or a cat shedding comb?

If your cat is a long haired cat that is susceptible to having mats and tangles and knots in their fur, then a cat shedding comb is likely the best tool for you to use to help control their shedding. A cat shedding comb typically is used to break up mats and remove the mats from your cat’s hair. Cat shedding combs typically have a skip tooth tool designed to lift out the loose hair once you break up the mats. There are long teeth on the cat shedding comb penetrate deep into the cat’s hair, while the short comb teeth are used for getting out the loose hair that is typically along the top after being loosened. So if your cat is long haired and typically gets mats, the cat shedding brush will work best for your pet.

A cat shedding brush is typically handy if you have a short haired cat. They can also work well with some long haired cats depending on how your cat’s hair is. A cat shedding brush can be used to remove the dead undercoat while not damaging the top coat. It can help with the shedding problems by bring out out the dead undercoat and this of course results is less “hairballs’ floating around your carpet or floors. Some cat shedding brushes purport to cut shedding up to 90 percent, although this can’t be proven, it truly can help. If your cat is shedding its coat and is an outdoor cat, the cat shedding brush can be extremely useful. The cat shedding brush also brings out your cat’s natural oils, which obviously makes your cat’s skin healthier and results in a shiny coat. This also reduces the amount of airborne allergens your cat releases, and can make the allergic folk in your family much happier.

So the cat shedding brush or comb are both handy and amazing tools to use in your fight to reduce cat shedding. The cat shedding comb is obviously a better fit for your long haired cat who gets a lot of matting and knots in their hair. However, if your cat is short-haired or a long-haired cat that does not typically have a lot of matting, then the cat shedding brush can be an excellent choice. It is all dependent on your cat.
