Bathing your cat is something that is not absolutely necessary to do on a weekly basis, but a monthly basis is recommended just to make sure your cat is clean. It’s an excellent way to ensure their hygiene and their cleanliness. To bathe your cat is something that some cats truly do enjoy and an owner can enjoy as well for spoiling their furry friend.
We have some handy tips available for bathing your cat. One important tip is to make sure you have some pet friendly shampoo for your cat. Pet friendly shampoo can be bought in the pet care section of any pet store that you can shop at. Also, if your pet has fleas, you will obviously want to buy pet flea and tick shampoo. You will also want to make sure and go through your pet’s hair and pull out fleas with a pair of tweezers or with your fingers if you can do so gently. You can also brush them out with a wire comb. However, make sure you sterilize the comb when you are done.
After making sure you have the proper supplies to bathe your cat such as pet friendly shampoo, perhaps a wire comb or brush depending on your cat’s fur and what it contains, you can proceed forward. You will then want to make sure that you have a mat in your sink or bath to ensure your cat won’t be slipping and sliding around the tub or sink while you are washing them. You will then want to put some lukewarm water in the sink or tub. About 4 inches is plenty of water for your pet, or you can stop the water when it reaches just above your cat’s paws.
If your cat doesn’t particularly like baths, make sure you can hold the cat gently by the neck to avoid chasing your wet cat around your house without even having given your cat the bath. If your cat is a kitten or a smaller cat, you can use a small plastic cup to pour water on your cat’s fur to get them wet. If you have a larger cat, you can use a plastic pitcher such as you use for tea and pour it over your cat’s fur. Also, a spray nozzle if available would be ideal as well to avoid contact with your pet’s eyes and nose.
Next, you will then want to apply the shampoo to your cat. Rub it gently from your cat’s head, all over their fur, and even back through their tail. Massage the shampoo gently making sure to get it over every inch of your cat. You will then want to rinse your cat off. You can use the same method you used to apply the water to rinse off your cat. Obviously, the ideal way would be to use a spray nozzle so you can try to avoid their eyes and nose. However, the pet shampoo is created so as not to irritate your cat too much if some does get into their eyes or nose.
Of course then you will want to get your cat out of the water and make sure you have a nice towel to dry your cat off! Your cat and you will develop a routine for baths and surely they will grow to love it as will you. These are all excellent tips for when you are going to bathe your cat.
