I have never had sole responsibility for a dog and am considering adopting an unwanted three year old crossbreed. He is a little dear, very friendly and appears to have no health problems. However, it has been suggested he should be spayed (?) What is this, why should it be done, and is it a very expensive procedure. My husband and I are pensioners and really would like this little fellow in our lives, but I am worried about costs - vet bills, injections, etc. - can you please give me some realistic advice. He appears very healthy, contended and is a lovely personality. Does he need lots of injections, etc? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
