someone please tell me how some dogs in general, are allergic to meat? that is the craziest thing i have ever heard. i didnt even know that was possible. my apbt is and has been on an all meat diet for most of his life and hes in great condition. come on people meat, for a canine is “the” best thing you can feed to your pet.

    2. Laura says:

I switched my lab and my german shepherd over to acana pacifica. My shepherd is allergic to all meat so this is a great alternative and they both love it. It is a little bit pricey, but worth it as good quality food should keep us away from the vet!

When my fiance and I first got our chesapeake bay as a pup, she was being fed Purina Puppy Chow by the breeder, which now I know is essentially poison to a dog over a long period of time. We switched her over to Pro Plan, which is not really much better and was making her stools soft and giving her bad gas.

However, I began working in a pet store and received education about dog foods and quickly switched her to something of higher quality. First I tried Fromm Gold Puppy, which is an excellent food, but I found that she was starting to lose little patches of hair on her paws and face, and she had started to scratch her ears a lot. It was hard to tell what she was allergic to because Fromm is jam packed with an encyclopedia of (wonderful) ingredients.

I decided that it was best to switch her to something that contained no traces of poultry, dairy, wheat, or corn, as they are the most common allergens among dogs. Funny enough, as far as I know, there are NO brands of dog food that make a puppy-specific formula that doesn’t have poultry. However, Acana grain-free formulas are appropriate for all life stages, so I tried her on Pacifica.

She is just over a year now and her stools are perfect, no gas, no itching or dry skin, and she grew her missing hair back. Chesapeakes have naturally wiry, wavy hair, but her’s somehow shines, and she has nice lean muscles. I’ve already recommended Acana Pacifica to 3 different people that have taken the advice and switched with happy results :)

    4. Tammy says:

We tried Acana Pacifica for two reasons, number one our boarder collie sheds like nothing I’ve ever seen, and it’s made close to home. It has slowed her shedding to almost nothing. A little more than I’d like to pay, and more than other products in this line, but it is worth it. Her coats is so shinny and soft as well. Great product.

    5. R Lister says:

I have a EB who is highly allergic, and would like to try her on this, as soon as she is finished her allergy trial. Acana Pacifica seems to be the one food that has no Beef, Chicken, Eggs, Dairy, Wheat, Corn, Soy.
Since we are still showing her, does this food have all the supplements needed for long term use? I need her to be in the best of shape and condition, above all healthy!
