    2. Chicken
    3. Corn
    4. Chicken-By-Product Meal
    5. Dried Beet Pulp
Chicken by-products (organs only, including chicken liver): Usually Chicken By-Products is a lower quality ingredient due to the fact that there is no way to determine the contents. Some manufactures will disclose what parts are used. In this ingredient only the organs and chicken livers are used, thus making this a decent quality ingredient.

Chicken:Chicken is a decent quality ingredient. Although it is a little deceiving. The ingredient “Chicken”, not in the “Meal’” form is inclusive of its water content. Meaning, once the water content is removed (during the cooking process) this ingredient can lose up to %75 of its weight, thus likely to fall further in the ingredients list. Chicken is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails.

Corn:When used in reasonable amount corn is not a horrible ingredient. What we don’t want to see is corn used as a main protein source. Named meat sources should be listed before this ingredient, the more the better. Any recipe that uses corn as a main source of protein will be deemed as lower quality. The current AAFCO definition of corn is: “unspecified corn product. Not a complete AAFCO definition.”

Chicken By-Product Meal:It is hard to determine the quality of this ingredient. Chicken By-Product Meal is a cheaper, lower quality ingredient mostly found in low end dog food brands. Chicken By-Products contain any part of the chicken besides the meat content, which is the most important. The current AAFCO definition of Chicken By-Products is:"Consists of the dry, ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, and intestines -- exclusive of feathers except in such amounts as might occur unavoidably in good processing practices. "

Dried Beet Pulp:Dried beet pulp is a controversial ingredient. Some have said that this ingredient cause many health problems, while others say it is a great ingredient. We feel that if additional fiber is needed, there are better choices than using beet pulp. We know that the ingredient is a filler and that the current AAFCO definition of Beet Pulp is:” the dried residue from sugar beets.”

    1. Terri says:

Protein is too high for large breeds and the fat content is also high.

I normally won’t feed my dog anything that contains corn bur she has became a finicky eater and the Biljack Select was recommended and she loves it otherwise I would stay away from this dog food.
