Some manufactures will disclose what parts are used. In this ingredient only the organs and chicken livers are used, thus making this a decent quality ingredient.

    Chicken:Chicken is a decent quality ingredient. Although it is a little deceiving. The ingredient “Chicken”, not in the “Meal’” form is inclusive of its water content. Meaning, once the water content is removed (during the cooking process) this ingredient can lose up to %75 of its weight, thus likely to fall further in the ingredients list. Chicken is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails.

    Chicken By-Product Meal:It is hard to determine the quality of this ingredient. Chicken By-Product Meal is a cheaper, lower quality ingredient mostly found in low end dog food brands. Chicken By-Products contain any part of the chicken besides the meat content, which is the most important. The current AAFCO definition of Chicken By-Products is:"Consists of the dry, ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs, and intestines -- exclusive of feathers except in such amounts as might occur unavoidably in good processing practices.       I generally buy the food for my 2 purebred golden retrievers at pet smart. I was approached (stalked) by a man with a table set up selling Bil Jac dog food. I explained that I use Blue Buffalo normally due to my dogs having YEAST allergies. He explained to my daughter and I that BilJac food was the same thing as Blue Buffalo only lower in price. He was persisitent and and seemed quite sure of his information regardiing this food. BIL JAC food is NOT the same (not even close) and I have been cleaning dog vomit and diahrea all night long!!! This has been terrible for my animals,who are distressed over this as well. It is my understanding that this is NOT the first complaint of this type comcerning this food,and that other animals have gotten ill from it. Should my animals require a vet visit or have ill affects from this, rest assured I will go public and seek to have all monetary fees returned as well!!!
