When analyzing dog food brands the first five ingredients are going to be the most important. The first five ingredients are going to make up the majority of the recipe. We have listed the ingredients, first five ingredients analysis and the guaranteed analysis of Bil Jac Senior Dog Food.

Fresh Chicken, Fresh Chicken By-Products (Organ Meat Only), Oatmeal, Corn, Fresh Chicken Liver, Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Brewers Dried Yeast, Cane Molasses, Eggs, Salt, Sodium Propionate (a preservative), DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Niacin, Biotin, Choline Chloride, Folic Acid, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), BHA (a preservative), Vitamin B12 Supplement, D-Calcium Pantothenate
    1. Fresh Chicken
    2. Fresh Chicken By-Products (Organ Meat Only)
    3. Oatmeal
    4. Corn
    5. Fresh Chicken Liver
Chicken:Chicken is a decent quality ingredient. Although it is a little deceiving. The ingredient “Chicken”, not in the “Meal’” form is inclusive of its water content. Meaning, once the water content is removed (during the cooking process) this ingredient can lose up to %75 of its weight, thus likely to fall further in the ingredients list. Chicken is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails.

Chicken by-products (Organ Meat Only): Usually Chicken By-Products is a lower quality ingredient due to the fact that there is no way to determine the contents. Some manufactures will disclose what parts are used. In this ingredient only meat from the organs are used.

Oatmeal:Oatmeal is a decent quality grain. Experts say that Oatmeal is an excellent source of carbohydrates and energy. Oatmeal is a great alternative grain for dogs that are suffering from allergies. Currently there is no official AAFCO definition for Oatmeal.

Corn:When used in reasonable amount corn is not a horrible ingredient. What we don’t want to see is corn used as a main protein source. Named meat sources should be listed before this ingredient, the more the better. Any recipe that uses corn as a main source of protein will be deemed as lower quality. The current AAFCO definition of corn is: “unspecified corn product. Not a complete AAFCO definition.”

Chicken Liver:Chicken liver is a decent quality ingredient. The current definition of Chicken Liver Meal is:” chicken livers which have been ground or otherwise reduced in particle size.”
