California Natural dog food formulas are designed for dogs that have food allergies. Each of these formulas contains one carbohydrate source, one protein source and one fat source. This short ingredients list helps when trying to eliminate specific ingredients from a dog’s diet. All of California Natural’s dog food formulas are free of by-products, artificial preservatives, chemical coloring and “filler” ingredients. These formulas are also free of corn, wheat, soy, and harmful additives.

Customer reviews of California Natural brand dog food formulas are about 2/3 positive. Many owners of dogs with allergies state that California Natural can be fed to their dogs without any issues. Some dog owners even state that it is able to clear up food allergy symptoms within a day or two. However, many dog owners seemed to have a reoccurring problem with California Natural brand dog food formulas.
The common symptoms included loose/bloody stools, gas, excessive diarrhea, bloating, lethargy and loss of hair. These symptoms were present with specific dogs, and seemed to clear up when the dogs were switched to different allergy dog food formulas. The stated symptoms could possibly be from the dogs having allergic reactions to one of the ingredients in the formula.

Also, where are the Grain Free options that California Natural offers? I would like to see what others think of them as well. When you are asked to do a strict food trial with your dog (single protein source AND grain free), it would be nice to make your food known so the owners don’t have to do a ton of searching and digging to help find relief for their pets.
I have my oldest Blue Pitbull on California Natural Grain Free Venison due to allergies. I had tried so many other foods to help with his skin issues and that ended up in either too much mess in the yard and/or loose stools. He is doing great on it and the product has a single meat source (Venison, no fish oils, no chicken, no beef, or any other type of meat) and has no grains what-so-ever. His coat is much healtier, he doesn’t smell, he sheds less, his coat shines, and best of all… NO SKIN PROBLEMS. My aunt also feeds both of her labs California Natural (the Chicken or Lamb varieties). Even though the price is a bit high, I will continue to pay that to help keep my Pitbull’s allergies under control with minimal medication and the most TLC (and grooming) as I can give him. He loves it!! Another reason I chose California Natural Grain Free Venison is because there are few ingredients ( 26 to be exact) and I could pronounce them without any troubles. Hope this is of some use to other allergy suffers out there.
I’ve feed my dogs California Natural for years, but after their sale to Proctor & Gamble last summer, I’m seeing a difference. My dog has increased gas, hair loss and one of the dogs now has hot spots. I think it’s time to switch foods.
I’ve notice the same. Even in the coloring of the food. Such a shame because it was working so well for my sensitive guy. Kinda ticks me off.
My dogs do well on CA Natural. I like it because the recipes are SIMPLE, with few ingredients. Dogs do not need fruits, peas, herbal extracts, and berries. If I want my dogs to have those things, I can add them myself, for a much cheaper price than when they are added to the complex recipes of premium dog foods. One of my dogs has food allergies that cleared up quickly once he was eating CA Natural Herring & Sweet Potato kibble.
