CESAR DOG FOOD REVIEW

Cesar brand dog food is available in both dry and wet formulas. Most of the wet formulas are available as "entree-style", designed to imitate human meals. There are three basic dry dog food formulas, one for each life stage. Cesar brand dry dog food does contain corn, often in its first five ingredients. Cesar dog food formulas are specifically targeted to meet the nutritional needs of small breeds, and are not recommended for larger dogs.

CESAR CONSUMER RATINGS

Due to Cesar brand dog food containing corn among its first five ingredients, many consumers tend to avoid these formulas. However, Cesar brand dog food is fairly inexpensive, which is why a few dog owners do purchase it. Cesar's dry dog food formulas aren't very popular in the US, since they are currently only offered by Cesar's Canadian website. Most of the negative reviews focused on Cesar dry dog food formulas, while there weren't as many negative reviews of Cesar's wet dog food formulas.

I have a large dog…He is an Akbash breed…So what is peculiar is that this food is meant for small dogs…!!
Bear is so addicted to all flavours of Ceasers… He eats 3 three of them a day!!!
I am concerned now because all he will eat is the wet and nothing else …
He won’t even eat the Ceasers dry food…! I think my dog has a texture issue when he eats dry food Bear weighs 53kg… He in fact gained 7kg and is still gaining weight …!!!
When we first adopted him 2 1/2 years ago he would only eat dry food and only 3 cups a day… Someone I know that has a small dog… gave him a Turkey flavor Ceaser… and now he will only eat Ceasers wet food( I tried other wet foods and he turned his nose away from them too)
And yes…!!!… I tried the leave the food in his bowl and cut him off the Ceasers trick… And he would wait by the cupboard… Once he did this for 2 days… Well… I caved
And gave him his fix…. and now that’s all he eats … He does like yams and rice… But as soon as he sees dry food in there he walks away pouting!!
Could this be a phobia he has now about dry food?
and started giving it to him again…my question is… Can my dog live on wet food alone?

Janice is right: Just because they like it does not mean it is good for them.
If your dog has trouble eating a regular healthy dry food diet, at least mix the dry food with the Cesar! My dogs love it too but I can’t feed it to them alone and expect them to be healthy!!! I reccommend putting dry food in a bowl in the morning then pouring in hot water from the kettle (just enough to fully submerse). Wait ten minutes then use a fork to make it all mush. Add the cesar for flavour then feed your dog(s).

Cesar is made with meat-byproducts and that is the parts of the animal that is left over that we don’t eat (except in some human hotdogs- even they are starting to lose the byproducts or at least put in less).

Melissa and Marnie…just because your dogs love it doesn’t mean it’s good for them… kids love McDonald’s too and that food is junk…..if you wish to feed them a nice healthy soft food, check out Nature’s Variety, Wellness, etc. there is no unhealthy ingredients in this food….

I have two Maltese. I have been feeding them Little Ceasar for over 6 years. They just love it. My concern is that they go crazy when I take the lid off. My dogs are addicted to it. I told my husband I think they are putting something in this stuff that is addictive. LOL

    • Marnie says:

Haha. My Maltese is also an addict (runs in circles when she sees me with a container). Go see my posting under Beneful. I bought some of the Beneful when I couldn’t get Ceasar on a trip. Shame on me, keeping my addict from her drug!

I have three small dogs and have used Cesar dog food for a number of years. Before giving my dogs your food I would chop it up for their easier consumption. I have noticed over the course of time there are more by-products showing up in your food. I am picking out more of these items lately which have caused me alarm. It’s pieces of lungs, spleen, stomachs, and God knows what else. I have also discovered that you use ethoxyquin in your products which has caused the following:

    a) kidney damage
    b) liver damage
    c) cancerous skin lesions
    d) loss of hair
    e) blindness
    f) leukemia
    g) spleen and stomach cancer
    h) immune deficiency syndrome
    i) liver cancer
    j) chronic diarrhea

I am no longer interested in purchasing your products and will alert my friends and family to do the same.

    • Janice says:

My hat’s off to you Sandra….do your research on pet food and also over vaccinating. Our vets don’t tell us everything. They don’t make money off of healthy pets, right?

There are a lot of very healthy foods at places such as Global Pet Foods, Pet Valu, etc.

I bought this for my dog three weeks ago and he loves it. He will be 15 in Oct, and he was getting so he was not eating, and I think some of that other food on the shelves is nothing but poisen, he seems more active since I have been giving him Cesar. He does have other health issues, but as long as he eat’s, I was more worried when he wasn’t eating.

  7. Hunter says:

My dog wasn’t eating Iams dog food, though my dog is very old ( 16 ) is blind and has cancer you wouldn’t think she wouldn’t like Iams. Most dogs don’t mind it. Then me and my sister went to No Frills and we saw Cesar. We bought it because we realized she wasn’t eating AT ALL! We popped open the can straight when we got home and she really ate it! I was so happy I ran to find my dad and I told him. I was scared until I found Cesar!

    • Janice says:

16 is a great age for a dog…too bad she is blind and has cancer. If she was fed Iams dog food for most of her life, and if she was vaccinated yearly, this could certainly be the reason for her blindess and cancer. Over-vaccinating a dog/cat causes many issues. Just like us humans don’t need yearly vaccinations neither do our pets. My 2 6-1/2 year old dogs have only been vaccinated as puppies; they get fed a very high quality dog food such as Rotations, Go Natural, Nature’s Variety and I select the wet food as well. They are very healthy! If your dog likes a wet food, try one of the ones I suggested above. Cesar has no nutritional content.

  8. Yaz says:

Well it is not surprising your dog likes the wet Cesar dog food is that it contains liver and dogs love it. There is nothing wrong with feeding organs to Dogs on an infrequent basis. Liver however should not be fed in large amounts. Liver can be dangerous for Dogs if fed in large quantities. Feeding a Liver-based diet can poison the pet with too much Vitamin A, which can affect muscles and bones. Too much Liver can be dangerous for Dogs, it can result in deformed bones, unusual bone growth and weight loss. Always feed Liver in moderation and your Dog will benefit, just do not feed more than a few times a week.

i don’t understand well if all those ingredients are good for my dog, but she loves this food. i had a big problem before as she was starving for days and didn’t want to eat anything but human food such as green salad, cucumbers etc. – strange and unhealthy…however, the minute i start opening caesar – she is next to me all excited and rush to her plate – she never leaves caesar food for later…i hope it’s good food for her

  10. Suzanne says:

I buy and feed the top quality dog food to my rescued dogs. Dogs are what they eat. Buying cheap quality food merely costs more in vet bills.

I have two very old small dogs who are not interested in food, so I buy Caesar dog food in the small cartons. My question is, “what is in this food”? There SHOULD be good quality ingredients because there are only 3 oz of food in those little plastic cartons, and while it says “filet mignon, chicken, steak” nowhere does it say those things are actually IN that food, it merely says “chicken flavor”, “steak flavor”, etc. So, WHAT IS IN THE CARTONS? What is used for the FLAVOR? If there is no meat in them what is the food? If meat is in it, and only the flavor of good meat, are some kind of by products in the food? I need to know.

The ads for Caesar are very cute, but that means nothing if the food isn’t actually nutritious and safe. Just tasting good isn’t enough.

    • Hunter says:

I Must say, it saved my dog from starving and she looks better after we got cesar! so I believe thats your answer

    • Janice says:

Cesar dog food has absolutely no nutritional content and is no better than Kibbles n Bits…if there is flavor listed only, there will absolutely be no meat ingredients. Don’t pay attention to commercials. Try top of the line brands such as Nature’s Variety, Go Natural, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Rotations, etc. Good Luck!
