DIAMOND DOG FOOD

Diamond brand pet food formulas are produced by Diamond Pet Foods. Diamond was first founded in 1970, and is now a family owned company. The company was founded in Meta, Missouri and is still headquartered in Meta to this day. Diamond has been involved in some pet food recalls, most notably in 2005. In 2050, Diamond discovered aflatoxin in one of their manufacturing plants. They recalled their corn-containing products that had been manufactured at that facility. However, many pets died as a result of the toxins

DIAMOND DOG FOOD REVIEW

Diamond brand dog food formulas are available in two separate product lines – Diamond Classics, and Diamond Naturals. Diamond classics usually contain corn, wheat or soy ingredients. Many of the Diamond Classic formulas contain ground corn among their first five ingredients. Diamond Naturals are marketed as being corn, wheat and soy free. However, many of the Diamond Natural formulas contain a carbohydrate as their first ingredient, usually brown rice. Chicken, chicken meal, egg product and oatmeal are also sometimes contained among the first five ingredients. Other ingredients that are sometimes contained in Diamond Naturals include millet, peas, cracked pearled barley, lamb meal, flaxseed and dried chicory root. Though some formulas are available in smaller 8lb or 10lb bags, some formulas are only available in 20lb or 40lb bags.

DIAMOND CUSTOMER RATINGS

Customer reviews about Diamond brand dog food formulas are relatively mixed. Diamond Pet Foods received a lot of bad press after they recalled toxic products in 2005, most notably because many dogs ended up dying. Though the company apologized for the incident, many people today still seem to view Diamond Pet Foods as a low quality company. The fact that the Diamond Classic formulas contain corn, wheat or soy ingredients (often among their first five ingredients) was another negative factor cited by some dog owners.

However, some dog owners report feeding their dogs Diamond Natural dog food formulas with no problems. The fact that Diamond Natural dog food formulas are free of corn, wheat and soy was a positive factor cited by many dog owners.

Say what you will about DN, but it’s the only dog food that my puppy will eat voluntarily. I have tried all of the “top of the line” brands like Wellness, Solid Gold, Orijen, all of the Blues, and I could go on and on. Now my puppy is finally eating DN puppy for small breeds without me having to hand feed him. This may not be the “top of the line” brand, but as long as my puppy eats it, I will continue to feed it to him. Although, I am leary about all the recalls in the past on regular Diamond foods, so I will continue to feed him this food with caution.

Don’t be cheap. I made that mistake and my great dane suffered from lymph node cancer and died at age 4. The food has no nutritional value, especially for a breed that grows too quick. If meat or poultry isn’t the first couple ingredients, you should splurge more so your dog will live a long and happy life. I haven’t fed my other great danes this food and they’re much healthier and better off.

I have been feeding Diamond naturals to all three of my dogs (doberman, pitbull, and samoyed)for 3 years, with all of them being heavy without being fat. My doberman weighs 105 pounds and is so lean when he runs you see the muscles along his ribs ripple. I tried other cheap dog foods and ones that dog breeders pushed to make them sound intellegent. 30 dollars for a 40 pound bag and is completely safe for a humans diet? Come on and there is no corn besides break off ingredients made from corn? Unlike most that have only 1 corn ingredient and 7 others that are all derived from corn.

If you are happy with your dogs living to be only 11 or 13 then keep feeding them stuff with horrible ingredients, if you want a dog to live 14+ then give them something more natural and edible as far as health goes. We can all eat dirt but that doesn’t qualify it as actual food.
