EUKANUBA DOG FOOD

EUKANUBA DOG FOOD

Eukanuba brand dog food is a type of pet food that is manufactured by the Iams company since 1969. Eukanuba is owned by Procter & Gamble, a Fortune 500 company that was first founded in 1837. Eukanuba is the main sponsor of a popular dog show, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. The reason that Iams markets some of their food products under the Eukanuba name is stated by Paul Iams as an attempt to highlight it as a super premium brand. The term Eukanuba is thought to be coined by Hoagy Carmichael, meaning “something supreme”.

EUKANUBA DOG FOOD REVIEW

There are currently eight divisions for Eukanuba dog food formulas. These divisions each represent a specific focus, such as health care or breed-specific nutrition. Most of these formulas also focus on either lamb or chicken as a primary protein source. Eukanuba states that they do not use vegetables as a primary protein source in any of their formulas.

EUKANUBA DOG FOOD FORMULAS

  1. Eukanuba Breed Specific Formulas are designed to meet the “unique” nutritional requirements of specific breeds. The philosophy behind these formulas is that different breeds have different rates of growth, and require special nutrition in order to remain healthy.
  2. Eukanuba Custom Care Formulas are designed to enhance the health of dogs. These formulas focus on issues such as weight, joint maintenance and sensitive skin. Custom Care currently has four different formulas for dogs.
  3. Eukanuba Naturally Wild Formulas are designed around specialized protein sources that are similar to those of dogs in the wild. Currently, the three protein sources in Naturally Wild formulas are venison, salmon and turkey.
  4. Eukanuba Puppy Formulas are designed for puppies that are under one year of age. These dry formulas are either designed around a general puppy nutrition scheme, or a “natural lamb and rice” formula.
  5. Eukanuba Adult Dog Formulas are suitable for all adult dogs. Aside from general adult formulas, there are also adult formulas in some of the other product lines (such as Custom Care or Naturally Wild).
  6. Eukanuba Senior Formulas are designed to be fed to senior dogs that are over seven years of age. These formulas focus on providing for the specialized needs of senior dogs, such as joint care and digestive aid.
  7. Eukanuba Premium Performance Formulas are designed for active dogs. These formulas contain a higher percentage of protein than some other Eukanuba dog food formulas.
  8. Eukanuba Natural Lamb & Rice Formulas are designed with lamb as one of the first five ingredients, and rice as a primary protein source. These formulas are available for all life stages.

EUKANUBA CONSUMER RATINGS

Customer reviews of Eukanuba brand dog food are mixed. Some dog owners cite that they do not like the association of Eukanuba with Procter & Gamble or Iams. Other dog owners cite the by-products and fillers contained in some of the formulas as being a negative aspect. However, some dog owners report feeding their dogs Eukanuba brand food without any bad results. Eukanuba brand dog food is regarded as an expensive food by dog owners.

I rescued a 9 month Snt Bernard Mix in November 2010. Very thin and with mange (very little hair). Have been on Eukanuba Dermatosis for a year now and the results have been very favourable. She is fit and healthy and beautiful. I don’t think there is a food that will suit all types of dogs. You just have to keep trying until you find the right one for your animal.

  2. Yorkie Owner says:

I’ve had my little yorkie on Eukanuba since she was a puppy and it’s NEVER given us trouble, in fact, my dog loves it and is super energetic and her fur is quite perfect.

I have 2 sausage dogs with sensitive tummies and all the food I tried affected them – their stools were always black and sometimes tarry, a sure sign of blood. Then I started them on Eunakuba Daily Care Sensitive Skin and they are 100%, it’s the only food they tolerate well. It’s expensive but it’s worth it. I feed them raw beef and cooked chicken (without skin and bones) now and then as a treat. It’s also the only food that doesn’t give the male sores around his nose and eczema.

My 13-year old golden/chow mix has been on Eukanuba Medium Breed since I rescued here at age 4 months. We switched her to Eukanuba Senior at age 10. All I can say is that she has had NO health problems, and vets marvel at how healthy/shiny her coat is .. her teeth are in incredible shape, and her energy level is just unbelievable for a “senior” dog. People can talk about ingredients, quality, price all day long – but I think the proof is in the pudding! I’m very, very happy with Eukanuba.

The vet has advised me to put my allergic dog on to Eukanuba Dermatosis. Please advise how much my dog should have per day. She is a large dog weighing in at 55kg. She needs to lose about 5kg, so what should a 50kg dog have per day? I am trying to calculate the monthly cost as I am a pensioner!

    Thanks

The Eukanuba Dermatosis FP for Dogs contains ethoxyquin (listed as an antioxidant). And I thought antioxidants were good? This is one of the most expensive brands in South Africa where we do not have access to the “5 star” foods, so one thinks that expensive = reasonable quality. Don’t be fooled.

I put my GS on their German Shepherd Formula due to his Diariahha. It worked for stopping it, but all the fillers in it, he is “itching and never did, shedding more, and Hates the taste. It takes me a half hour every day to “con” him into eating this brand. He never had a problem with Royal Canin Gs 24…But, they changed their formual, and added pork to their exciting GREAT ingredients.Well, GS cannot tolert some protiens. So after two days on their “new enriched formula he startedwith the runs”…I called them up crying…This was the NLY dog food my GS could tolerate.
So I tried the Eucanubas Gs…It stopped the runs, he has been on it a month now.But really HATES it, and is not eating what he should for his size(115),starting to get too thin I noticed, and he never “itched before, but due to probably the corn in the top 5 ingredients, he is .So I will begin a new search.VERY Stressful !

I had recent infestation that put my litter of pups in critical condition, as well the a 5 month old that I kept from previous litter.
The bacteria from the contaminated food multiplied by the millions in the intestines of the babies and killed off the good bacteria that allows the normal balance of things.
I called the company to inform them of the infestation and was sale-pitched into a smaller box of Iams puppy biscuits, as well as Eukanuba puppy biscuits; one being a different packaging all together and the other being smaller (both more expensive) in order to use ‘daily’.
The food (Eukanuba large breed puppy formula) and treats (Iams puppy biscuits) were both contaminated.
Three weeks have passed and I have yet to receive a phone call of confirmation from a higher up (at the very least) and/or money valued replacement.
As of today, almost $7000 worth of Vet bills, medicine, gasoline, prescription food, extra laundry, cleaning supplies…and the list goes on to save this litter! All due to contaminated food and treats, not to mention the 5 month old.
Consider long and research wisely before using these products and other ‘Vet recommended’ dog foods, as well.
