Horizon Legacy brand dog food is produced and marketed by Horizon Pet Nutrition. Horizon Pet Nutrition is Canadian owned, and has their manufacturing facilitiy located in Saskatchewan, Canada. They source 96% of the ingredients of their formulas within a short distance of their manufacturing facility in Saskatchewan. Aside from producing the Legacy line of dog food formulas, Horizon also produces “Horizon Complete”, another line of dog food formulas. Horizon Pet Nutrition also produces food formulas for cats, under the Complete and Legacy product lines. Currently, Horizon’s Vice President is Jason Skotheim. He is also a co-owner of the manufacturing facility in Saskatchewan.

HORIZON LEGACY DOG FOOD REVIEW

Horizon’s Legacy line of dog food formulas are completely grain-free, marketed as being free from “filler” ingredients. Unlike many other grain-free dog food formulas, Horizon Legacy formulas do not contain potatoes as an alternate source of starch. Horizon markets their Legacy brand as having “the same nutritional philosophies as a raw diet, but in a convenient super-premium kibble”. The ingredients of Horizon Legacy dog food formulas contain botanical herbs, vegetables, fruits and “human-grade” meats. The antioxidant ingredients in Horizon’s Legacy formulas include pineapple, cranberries and blueberries. There are currently two different bag sizes for Horizon Legacy dog food formulas: a smaller 8.8 lb bag, and a large 28.6 lb bag.

HORIZON LEGACY DOG FOOD FORMULAS

1. Horizon Legacy Puppy is designed to be fed to puppies under one year of age. Puppy formula may also be fed to dogs that are nursing or currently expecting a litter. The first five ingredients of this formula are chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, peas and pea starch. Other ingredients include cabbage, bok choy, blueberries, salmon oil, chicken fat, pea fibre, flaxseed, broccoli, apples and carrots. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 36% protein and 18% fat.
2. Horizon Legacy Adult is able to be fed to all adult dogs that are over one year of age. The first five ingredients of this formula are chicken, chicken meal, pea, pea starch, and turkey meal. Other ingredients include blueberries, yucca extract, pineapple, pea fibre, salmon meal, apples, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, vitamin A acetate and chicken fat. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 34% protein and 15% fat.
