Natural Balance brand dog food is produced and marketed by Natural Balance Pet Foods, which is often referred to as "Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods". The company was first founded in 1989, by Dick Van Patten and his partners. Aside from producing formulas for household pets, Natural Balance Pet Foods also produces zoological formulas for animals such as wolves, lions, polar bears and tigers that live in captivity. Natural Balance Pet Foods has also participated in several programs, such as the Hurricane Katrina Rescue effort for lost pets. The headquarters for Natural Balance Pet Foods are currently located in Los Angeles, California. Natural Balance Pet Foods only became successful after Petco opened 625 new stores, as the company was previously losing money. Today, Natural Balance Pet Foods have many different formulas, and are the official dog food of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives dogs.

Natural Balance dry dog food formulas can vary in color, due to the meat and vegetables used in the formula. All of the Natural Balance dog food formulas are preserved with mixed tocopherols, which are a source of Vitamin E. In addition to this, Natural Balance dog food formulas contain Canola Oil, in order to provide monunsaturated fat and omega 3. Since Natural Balance dog food formulas are marketed as being appropriate for "All Life Stages", they can be fed to puppy, adult and senior dogs. However, Natural balance does recommend a few specific formulas for puppies, in order to ensure that puppies receive proper nutrition. The philosophy behind this is that puppies will automatically stop eating when they consume a sufficient amount of nutrients.

Most dog owners report having positive experiences when feeding their dogs Natural Balance brand dog food. It is said to promote a healthy coat, maintain healthy weight, and have a high amount of digestibility. The protein sources in all Natural Balance dog food formulas are "human grade", which most dog owners found to be a positive factor of these formulas. The formulas are not exceptionally high in protein, but some dog owners cited this as a positive factor. The first ingredient in some of the dog food formulas was Sweet Potato (instead of a protein source), which some customers cited as a negative factor.
A few dog owners reported that their dogs experienced excessive gas, loose stools and digestive problems when switched to some Natural Balance dog food formulas. My precious Husky has been on the duck & potato L.I.D. for four years after suffering with allergies and upset stomach. He loves this food and hasn’t had an issue since we put him on it. He also eats the canned food and the L.I.T. treats that match. He likes duck, so we recently gave him the legume & duck meal dry food and he loves that too and it did not upset his system. I am so happy with this product and it makes my dog so happy, I wanted to write this natural balance review and share my experience with others.
You forgot to mention Alpha in your list. I was looking for a grain-free dog food that wasn’t crazy overloaded with protein and meat and Natural Balance was the only brand I could find that makes this. It’s a great dog food if you want a nice mix of veggies, fruits, carbs and protein for your dog and I think it even has prebiotics in it to regulate their GI. They make it with different proteins – chicken or a fix blend and one with rabbit I think – I take turns buying them all and all my petkids love it.
We buy all Natural Balance products for our dogs and cats. Some have allergies and we use the L.I.D. formulas for them, while others are on Ultra. We trust Natural Balance and our pets thrive on their food – all of our animals are healthy and happy. The dogs we had with allergies show now more symptoms after switching to this brand. The ingredients are holistic and not only that, all our pet-kids seem to love the taste. We have been buying Natural Balance for two years now and will continue to do so.
My dogs love the sweet potato with chicken, salmon and since I have been feeding them, two of my pomeranians have developed liver problems. Could there be a protein issue with this?
My dog is eating duck and potato and was recently told he has degenerative heart diseas and told to go on low sodium dog food. Could you tell me the sodium content of this food please.
I believe this is a very important venture in some cases where dogs have constraints and complex eating habits. Knowing that you understand the needs of their eating requirements are very comforting for me as a pet owner.

Currently he is eating between Lamb Meal & Brown Rice And Sweet Potato & Fish Formula But is still itching all over.

Also, this company does not “produce” their product, they sub contract to two other manufacturers one being diamond, who just shut down a plant.
