Natural Choice brand dog food is produced and manufactured by Nutro Products. Nutro Products was purchased by Mars, Incorporated in 2007. Mars, Inc traces its roots back to 1911, when it was founded in Tacoma, Washington. Currently, the headquarters for Mars are located in McLean, Virginia. Many Nutro Dog Food products were affected by the FDA recall in 2007, though the best-by dates of those foods have since expired. Nutro is currently headquartered in Industry, CA.

Natural Choice brand dog food formulas are marketed as being free of chicken intestines, chicken feet, or chicken heads. Natural Choice also contains omega 6 linoleic acid and zinc. While the formulas often have protein among their first five ingredients, there is sometimes only one protein source among several carbohydrates. For example, in the “Small Bites Puppy” formula, the first five ingredient are chicken meal, ground rice, rice flour rice bran and pea protein. While the formulas do not contain corn (which is cited by some as being a cheap filler ingredient), the high percentage of rice ingredients may not be suitable for dogs that have food-based allergies. Many of the minerals in Natural Choice brand dog food formulas are “chelated”, which is reported to make them more easily absorbed by dogs.

Customer reviews about Natural Choice brand dog food are mixed. Some dog owners report that their dogs are easily able to digest Natural Choice brand formulas, without any adverse health effects. Some dog owners even attributed things such as shiny coat and higher energy with feeding their dogs Natural Choice brand dog food. However, these positive reviews were not very common. Many people cited the fact that Natural Choice sometimes caused digestive problems in some dogs. A significant number of dog owners, reported that their dogs developed food-based allergies after being fed a steady diet of Natural Choice dog food formulas. Some dog owners reported that Natural Choice may have contributed to their dogs gaining a bit of extra weight. While this was a positive factor for some dog owners (who had dogs that had a hard time keeping weight on), Natural Choice caused unhealthy weight gain in some other dogs. Some dog owners cited the fact that Natural Choice has a high percentage of carbohydrates, which could be the reason that some dog owners were reporting that it caused their dogs to have a higher level of energy.
