My baby Ginger is a hybrid mix and is part wolf. Recently, she has become very picky about her food. I switched to Wellness brand for grainfree food. She first loved it but as we got to the end of the bag it got so bad that she would only eat until she was absolutely starving… :( I went to the local pet store and the associate told me about this brand. I bought the salmon and rabit forumula. At first she was pretty apprehensive. A lot of sniffing and a lot of skepticism. I finally said eat, please eat! She took one bite and then WENT TO TOWN on it!! I was SO RELIVIED! And HAPPY!! :) Dan from Petexpress was spot on! I hope she continues eating with this vigor… :)

p.s. to those of you complaining about the zipper. I agree, that is rather silly. Buy a food bin, they are cheap and keep the food fresh!

Good Lord, you people are put out because they took out the zipper? The Zig (my canine friend) loves this stuff and I could care less about a zipper bag. He loves the chow, I can use a chip bag clip to seal the damn bag up. Get a life, hippies.

I personally have used Nature’s Variety for a total of 5 completely different dogs. A poodle/shih tzu mix, a minature poodle, a GSP, a GSD, and a Golden. All these dogs had vary dfferent problems from not keeping weight on, allergies, skin/coat issues, bowel movement problems and much more. All 5 dogs were 100% on this food. They love it! They eat the raw diet, kibble, and canned. They also eat both the Prairie and Instinct line. I have fed over 16 different types of food to these dogs and this is the only one that everyone could eat and that solved all of their problems. Also don’t get me wrong I was not looking for a food to change them all too. I was actually willing to buy different brands if one helped one dog over another. I also work for a pet store and must say though I do miss the zipper openings, I don’t miss the zipper seals breaking all over the floors at work. So even though I kinda wish the zipper was still there, it makes work easier sometimes. As for the person who found the bug in their frozen instinct…those foods go through a lot before they hit the shelves. It is possible the bug climbed in and mistakes happen even in the best companies. I have been feeding this food for over 5 years now and know people who have fed it for even longer and have never had that issue. But I do understand your concern. But I must give kudos to this company. They have been one of the best I have ever worked with and the best food I’ve ever fed.

I just purchased the gluten free grain free variety Chicken for my Irish Setter who has been very ill and I am hoping that this product helps. I had a very hard time finding a gluten free product in my area. I thought I was going to have to start preparing meals for him myself. I will let you know if he gains weight and health on this product.

I have been feeding my lab/chow nature’s variety for the better part of his life. He will be 7 yrs old in Jan 2011. He prefers the red(beef) & the yellow(chix) over the others.
He has been in very good health, good temperment even around our young children and ‘regular’ since we have been purchasing Nature’s Variety.
The local indepedent pet supply store we patronize, Bone-A-Patreat, is great.
I have to say I am not happy with Nature’s Variety lately. My issue is while their dog food is very healthy and my dog seems to like it, it is expensive when compared by pound to similar high protein dog foods available at Costco, Petco, etc. Just in the last several bags I’ve noticed that NV has done away with the zip-lock type bags. I’m guessing this was a cost saving move for NV.
If I’m paying significantly more $ to buy NV brand foods, I’m not at all happy that NV is finding ways to cut corners. If that’s their priority, I could, by the same logic, cut my costs by buying the Costco dog foods and save my self some $ every month.
I hope Nature’s Variety will reconsider their packaging decision and bring back the convenience of the air tight, zip-lock type bags soon.
The owner of Bone-A-Patreat has been good enuf to offer to buy the air-tight container to keep us as customers.
C’mon Nature’s Variety! If you have a Cadillac product, you don’t try to cut costs by cheapening the product in the eyes of your regular customers! Bring back the sealable bags asap please.
    Thanks

I absolutely agree with you, I have two white shepherds who are very pick eaters, and one has allergies, so this food was perfect for them. I use the new NV Instinct Beef and Lamb, which is slightly more. But, boy was I disappointed a few weeks ago when I went to purchase the 25 lb bag, and there was no zipper. I don’t think NV realizes how convenient that is. If we are willing to pay the price, please do not change the Packaging

      Thank
