OL’ ROY DOG FOOD

OL’ ROY DOG FOOD

Ol’ Roy brand dog food is produced and marketed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Wal-Mart was first founded in 1962, by American entrepreneur and business man Sam Walton. The company was incorporated in 1969, and made it onto the New York Stock Exchange in 1972. Sam Walton had a dog named Ol’ Roy, which is where the dog food formula got its name. Ol’ Roy brand dog food was first created in 1983.

OL’ ROY DOG FOOD REVIEW

Ol’ Roy is currently the top-selling dog food formula in the United States, most likely due to its inexpensive price. The Ol’ Roy dog food formulas usually include corn as the first ingredient, and always include corn among the first five ingredients. Ol’ Roy was submitted for testing for pentobarbital in 1998, under suspicion that euthanized animals were included in the formulas. Testing was positive for pentobarbital, which was thought to be from rendered cattle used in the formulas.

OL’ ROY CONSUMER RATINGS

Most customer reviews of Ol’ Roy brand dog food are negative. Though it is very inexpensive compared to other dog food formulas, it seems to cause health problems with many dogs. Some of the problems included poor digestion, hair loss, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive weight gain, gas, and low energy levels. Many dog owners stated that they would never feed their dogs Ol’ Roy formulas simply due to the fact that corn was often the first ingredient. Other dog owners cited the bad press of Ol’ Roy formulas due to their testing positive for pentobarbital.

No one knows the long term affect of GMO’s on our food or our bodies. Cancer rates are sky rocketing all over the country. Studies now show GMO’s in the long term kill mice.

  2. akgirl says:

Originally I had 7 female dogs, all litter mates. They will turn 12 in July 2012. I lost one a year ago, she had a massive tumor that had grown into her spine. Last week another one was diagnosed with breast cancer and this morning the vet informed me another one has bone cancer. I have another 4 and I assume soon they will be showing symptoms also. I owed the mother and father to these 7 females, they were raise in a remote area of Alaska. They drank glacier fed spring water their entire lives and they ate a steady diet of Walmart’s Ole Roy Brand Dog Food, which is quite high in Alaska. All my dogs are dying from different types of cancer, cause by the dog food. Anyone know a good attorney willing to take this on. It makes for an excellent argument against GMO’s and the cancer they cause.
Wake up people, it’s not only in dog food, you are eating it to

Does anyone out there know where Ol’Roy is made? I checked a can of it yesterday and all it said was that it was distributed by Walmart. I’m checking all dog food and treats now to make sure they are manufactured in the USA and not China. Thanks!!!

I have a 2yr old Boxer. This is the FIRST Ol’ Roy bag I have EVER bought and def. the last. I bought the Ol’ Roy Gravy Chunks I believe. He was on Purina Pro Plan, Purina Dog Chow, and Diamond Hi-Protein. I have had Boxers all my life and they CAN BE a little picky about their food, so occasionally I have had to change it up for him. Here are the issues I noticed:

1.) He will NOT touch it unless he is STARVING. I know this because I fill up him bowl and I don’t have to refill it the next day, in fact I haven’t had to fill it for 4 days! Although the first chance he got he ate all the cat food he could handle (Boxer’s are also pretty smart about getting into cupboards. They only get called “stupid” because they are stubborn. Their way or the highway. Altho they are great with kids, family and love to please their owners (tricks, etc).

2.) After 3 days of him even slightly eating it, he lost his hair on his neck, broke out in hives, rashes all over his body, has went from 65lbs to 53lbs just in the matter of days. Not to mention he has been chewing on his poor foot for about 3hrs straight! Its bleeding and its just horrible.

    SO:

1.) I took him to the vet to have her do a mange scraping. NEGATIVE. Amen, no mange. (Didn’t think so as my cat has all his hair and he is 20lbs!)

2.) He is on Revolution for fleas/ticks,etc been on that damn near his whole life, so I know its not his flea spot-on meds.

3.) Gave him Benadryl (the little pink/red capsules) and it made him stop itching. However, as soon as he even touched the dog food BAM back at it with the allergies.

    SO:

I contacted everyone I knew, and they led me to this place called Outlaw Feed in Temple,TX at (254)534-5281. It is ALL natural so it is GREAT for dogs that have food allergies.

I was worried about the “price and cost of feeding” since it is Holistic or whatever (that hippy shit tends to be more expensive), anyway, I spoke with a lady who will deliver it for me (I live about 1hr away) for $2.00.

HERE IS THE PRICE: 50lbs for $19-$23!

My dog has been on something called “The GREEN Bag” for about a week and ALL his symptoms disappeared! No kidding! This dog food is the best I have ever seen and ALL GOOD REVIEWS! My dog loves it and WAY more affordable and HEALTHY as it has NO WHEAT, NO CORN, NO SOY! Which are the main things that dogs are allergic to in the formula.

    Here’s whats even better:
They SHIP to you and you can FIND a dealer in YOUR AREA!

So, if Ol’Roy messed your dog up, or maybe not….maybe your dog is like mine and just has allergies, then try this dog food. It is the best I have ever seen!

  5. Misty says:

Misty – my boxer likes the food she’s on Ol’roy soft & moist but it has ingredients in it I disprove of most of them being on the list below one of them being ethoxyquin or E its a preservative I am questioning my decision on feeding her Ol’roy but what else am I going to feed her what dog food is there that does not have the harmful ingredients in them it does not require me to pay so much ?

thanks to pet food regulations pet food manufacturers ONLY have to list ingredients they add – not ingredients or preservatives added by a ingredient supplier

look up the ingredients below its all ingredients your dog nor cat need
by products, corn – ground yellow corn, corn meal, corn gluten meal, generic unidentified, chemical preservatives, ethoxyquin sometimes seen as E, BHA or BHT, brewers rise, brewers wheat, soy, wheat, solt, flax, add colors or flavorings, mill run or grain fragments, synthetic vitamin K, onions

I recently ran out and purchased a bag of Ole Roy Lamb and Rice from the local walmart and my dog starting vomiting and having diarrhea. It lasted 3 days at which we had switched him over to rice only until his stomach settled. We started him back on another brand of lamb and rice and he has been fine. I really believe the bag of Ole Roy is tainted or has a fungi in it. He is not a dog with a sensitive stomach. I have used walmart brand before in the past and had no problems (I will not again) but this recent bag definitly has something wrong with it.

    • JS says:

Tina, not exactly a double blind study you have going there. It could, and likely is, pure coincedence. For example, I wore brown shoes outside yesterday and it rained all day, today I wore white sneakers and it was nice, I’m never wearing those brown shoes again! Now you know where old wives tales come from. By the way, I not wearing the brown shoes again because they got ruined but of course you jumped to the conclusion that I wasn’t wearing them because I didn’t want it to rain. Stop jumping to conclusions already!

I have been feeding my Boxer Ol’ Roy since he was a puppy. He will be 16 years old this January. So those of you who don’t agree maybe you just don’t know how to feed them right. You don’t have food infront of you all day so maybe that’s why they got fat on it and lack of energy.I feed him four cups once a day and he is just fine.He also has alot of land to run on. To me my dogs are family.
Everyone is intitled to their own opinions too.

  8. JB says:

Serisouly anobody that cares about their dog will do their homework and notice that this food is total crap. I feed my dog Orijen and serisouly, if the only food you can afford is this shitty Walmart bullshit, then you should not even have a dog to start with. I have been a breeder for many years and I know what I am talking about. It makes me so mad to read how people can be uninformed…this is sad.

    • JS says:

So what if you are a breeder, that doesn’t make you a nutritional expert! If so, than I can run a nuclear power plant since I live near one! So you get dogs to have sex, which they’ll do on their own by the way, and now you’re a nutrional expert! I guess you can do vet stuff too. Consumer Reports, a well respected consumer products testing lab, who actually tests the stuff (did you test it?) rated it as a best buy. If suckers want to spend more, feel free, sucker!

  9. peggy says:

I was feeding red bag ol roy.I feed between 100-150 lbs per week.
Have not used ANY SENCE YOU STARTED CUTTING WEIGHT.i WANT 50 LB BAGS.
where can i get 50 lb bags.

  10. Angela burchett says:

I don’t buy the ol roy dog food but thats only because my dogs did not like it. I do buy the ol roy dog treats that are almost 50% cheaper than the other stuff. I think everyone has a different experience with different dog food and should keep that in mind when posting. Not everyone can afford to feed our dogs steaks and potatoes every night. but that don’t mean we love our dogs any less than anyone else. I also would like to see more coupons for the treats as well as the dog food.

  11. Richard says:

Anyone who thinks O’l Roy is a good dog food simply does not know anything about proper nutrition. If you can read this… try using that amazing little box at the top of the page called google ( or go to google.com ) and research what you have questions or doubts about. Also if you are trying to match the ingredients of one crap food to another they do look the same, but guess what… they are both crap. People who have fed this food to their dogs thier whole lives will never know what they could have had out of their dogs. I agree with everyone else who said if that’s all you can afford then you should not have any animals period!!!

    • Brittany says:

I didnt choose to have any of my dogs they all just showed up in my yard. And yes all 7 of them eat ol roy. all of them are mutts and my local pound is always full so they would have probly been put down if we sent them to the pound. all 7 of my dogs are healthy and active and they have very shiny coats. No ol roy is not the best food but i do think they would rather eat ol roy and have a full tummy at all times and be loved and a part of my family than to be killed.

  12. Julia says:

I have a Pit Bull that I have been feeding O’l Roy to all his life and I must add that he is the best dog ever, No Vet bills to speek of except FOX TAILs in his nose and paws, and I dont think thats from the food I am feeding him…. lol and by the way he will be 15 years old this Feb, only problem I am have with this dog food is NOT finding coupons to buy this food…….

  13. sck9 says:

Everybody sees to knnow what’s good or “poison’ for dogs.
I have one thing to say: a dog is an animal; in the wildness, they will drink off rivers, lakes ans muddy water holes, they will hunt down “full of worms” animals and eat any dead and leftover bodies found.. and survive.

I own a selective breeding kennel of working and showing siberians. Also a successful ethological canine educator…With a veterinarian study backgroud.
I love my 15 dogs and I have fed them Ol’roy Maxiumm for the past 10 years – Not a single thing negative to report.
I also understand and respect that people are allowed to feed something else
    BUT
bashing on something when you can’t even understand what is your best friend.. THAT does not make any sense!

  14. Rachel says:

When I first started reading everyone’s comments, I wasn’t planning on saying anything, but now I feel like I have to! I have a GSD puppy (3 months old) and a pitbul mix (around 2 years, found in a box on the side of the road with siblings). Gary the GSD gets Fromm’s LB puppy, and Nina eats Taste of the Wild. Both have NO corn, bone meal, any of that crap! I feel terrible not feeding raw, and would NEVER consider Old Roy shit in a bag. For people saying it’s all they can afford, look for things in your life to downgrade. Don’t make your pet suffer through YOUR economic crisis. And for Chester, my dogs are walked every day. Nina gets 3 45 minute walks, and Gary gets 3 20 minute walks. Now before you go and say that’s unfair, do research, dick. With large breed puppies, or any breed prone to hip dysplasia, it’s best not to exercise much. As for people saying they trust your vet, think again. Do you know how much Hills and Purina pay vets to endorse their shitty products? Royal Canine as well, actually. My previous vet constantly tried to push a prescription diet for Nina, since she can’t have grain. I don’t remember the exact ingredients, but there was beef meal and other low quality ingredients for $75 for a 40 pound bag. For $46 I get a 30 pound bag of an amazing food. But prescription food is another story. I’d never consider Old Roy, and would go hunting or fishing to provide instead. There are always other options.

    • Brittany says:

Rachel……I do have to agree with u about how we should not make our pets suffer through our economic crisis. I do feed my dogs ol roy because its cheap and it is all we can afford for our 7 dogs. we eat all the off brand food and the cheap food at my house and never any name brand food. im only 15 and i love all my dogs very much they are my best friends. All 7 of my dogs are stray dogs that have just came up in my yard. All 7 would have been killed if we sent them to our local pound. so i do think that my dogs would rather eat ol roy and have shiny coats and get lot of love and suffer through our economic crisis with us and have a full tummy at all times than to be killed and thrown into a land fill. All 7 of my dogs are at a healthy weight and have white teeth and are active and have shiny coats. my friend feeds their dogs blue buffalo and my chocolate lab looks way better than hers and the vet told us that my dogs were and still are in perfect health. i do wish i could feed my dogs better food but i just caint and probly never will be able to but as long as my dogs have a full tummy and are healthy who gives a shit what i feed them?

  15. Laura says:

Well I returned Ole Roy Dog food today. Our dog had a reaction to it, and based on other sources, went back to his original food. He is glad…because he could not digest it well, and got a rash in his mouth and on his paws.

I’ll never ever buy it again….who wants fake dogfood?? Truly we need to feed our pets better as we improve our own diet free of preservatives and food colors, fillers etc…

I would not recommend this food to anyone…

    • Elizabeth says:

Agree, I have already posted on a couple other post, so I will not repeat here, however, it needs repeating. DO NOT BUY this junk. When a company will not talk to you, lets a person that has no knowledge about the production of the food only speak to you, THIS speaks miles to me and should to anyone reading this and everyone that you can tell about it including WAL MART.

  16. Mastiff Mom says:

I have 13 dogs (3 adults and 10 pups) that are all eating the performance blend. I admit that the regular formulas with Corn listed as the first or second ingredient are junk foods for your dogs but the lamb and performance are actually a good nutrition for a dog. I use performance to supplement the RAW diet for my dogs. The vet has complemented me for the way my dogs coats shine as well as how clean their teeth are for dogs on primary RAW diet. What you feed your dog needs to be breed sensitive. Performance is 26% protein and that is what our dogs need at their size.

For the gal that lost the litter of pups I would almost bet your dogs contracted Parvo (a terrible digestive disease prevented by proper vaccinations) and their deaths had nothing to do with their dog food. I currently have 10 mastiff puppies in the process of weaning and the are eating the soft moist food (available at all times) with two feedings of performance mushed down to little bites and softened with puppy formula. All are growing nicely.

  17. Vicki says:

I have no problem with Ole Roy food. We had a time when the money was real tight so we used another store brand food. Our dogs started losing weight and that all around healthy look. We used that food for about 2-3 months and decided that we needed to go back to Ole Roy even though it was a bit more in price. In one week our dogs showed a vast improvement. I’ll use Ole Roy from now on and wont use anything else. Thanks Walmart and Ole Roy

  18. Ashley says:

7/9/2011 i almost never buy pet food for my dogs but this month i had to and ol’ roy was the winning pick. Thanks to my dumb pick two of my dogs died a slow painful death over about three days. The bag i got had the UPC number is 8113117551. yeah the same number that was recalled in 09 only i didnt know that until today when i looked it up. So tell me why is it being sold again now?

  19. Barbara says:

I use to feed my dog’s Diamond dog food. I was refered by a breeder that it was a top brand for breeders. My dogs loved the stuff, but my husband and I both lost our jobs. Both of our companies were down sizing. Last hired first fired deal. Anyways, long story short couldn’t afford Diamond anymore. I tried all kinds of brands, and settled on the cheapest because couldn’t afford anything else. I even had to cook thee food at some point. I’d had my dogs for 5 years by that time. Now I do love my dog’s, and would do what I could for them. They were too much a part of my family to give them up. I even went homeless with them. Before I ate I made sure they ate first. I had even went without so they could eat. Someone who doesn’t love their dogs won’t do that. No one has the right to make comments about not loving their pets by feeding them O’l Roy. In some cases people really can’t afford anything else. Before commenting on whether one cares for their dogs think about it first.

  20. kent says:

we have a coon hound who we got from a breeder who used Old Roy.We got her as a pup,she is almost 4 now and has eaten nothing but Old Roy “Maximum”.She is a very active dog, very glossy coat, and get a lot of compliments about her when she’s out running. Her bowl is always full, eats and drinks as she wants and gets run regularly, she has solid stools and no problems to date.
    no bad PR here
if it ain’t broke don’t fix it
for the nay sayers enjoy your starbucks!

  21. Sandy says:

Dogs are carnivores – they need meat and plenty of it. Most dog foods are loaded with cheap plant ingredients (such as corn, wheat, and soy), then add corn syrup or sugar just to make it palatable. The meat they contain is of very low quality (by-products, which is anything (ANYTHING) but the actual muscle meat, and often listed as “animal” or “poultry” byproducts, meaning the company isn’t even able or willing to tell you what type of animal the by-products came from. If it was something good (beef, pork, chicken, turkey), trust me – they would be sure to put it right on the label.
Sure, there are probably some dogs who can eat garbage food and be pretty healthy, at least for a while, just as there are people who smoke and drink excessively and get away with it…for a while, but that doesn’t make it the healthiest choice. And sure, crappy foods are normally cheap (except expensive crappy foods such as Iams and Eukanuba) but I’d rather spend a lot of money ensuring my dog is getting excellent nutrition than spend money at the vet clinic later on in an attempt at damage control for my short-term penny-pinching. If I’m going to gamble, I’d rather gamble that the expensive but exceptionally high-quality food is going to help my dog, rather than gamble with my dog’s life.

  22. Bonnie Lex says:

I switched from canned Alpo Premium to Ol Roy last week because of a price increase at Walmart. I didn’t even realize it was the Walmart brand. I was just trying to save a few cents. I have 2 rescue dogs and both seemed to love it at first. After 3 days the older dog developed severe uncontrollable diarrhea that I first attributed to old age. The next day both dogs had it. The other dog having blood in her stool also. Stupid me. That’s when I realized it must be the food. I immediately threw out all uneaten food. I’ve heard that shelters won’t even take it. My kids were very sick but after several days of not eating they are happy to have their old food back. This stuff is poison and I don’t know how Walmart gets away with selling it. I’ve since done my research on this stuff and have seen what it does to animals. Cruel and horrible deaths. NEVER AGAIN!

    • Elizabeth says:

I agree Bonnie, something needs to be done about this poison, I tried today by calling the number on the container, that didn’t get me anything except high blood pressure. I called to tell them the container that I had opened, the new packaged tubs, had spots of foil from the covering on the food, the covering had turned black and the food was dry about a quarter of inch into the container. I had heard the food had been improved and like some others have posted with the rising prices at Wal Mart I thought I would give it a try… never again. Those…. people told me that this could not happen! It was imposible for the foil to leave spots and the foil could not turn black. Then what was I looking at? I care way too much for my dog to feed him this stuff…and hope that everyone reading this cares as much for their pets.

  23. Anna V says:

my dogs have been getting sick recently. they eat ol roy dry dog food. i couldn’t find out why they have been vomiting and getting diarrhea.then i started watching them while they eat. they barley touch there food. its like they only eat it when they desperately have to eat.i tried feeding one on my dogs the ol roy dog food and she wouldn’t touch it. then i gave her just a little bit of cat food and she dove right in.she will eat everything else but the dog food. that should tell you something. dogs sense things that we cant.when they will eat anything else but there dog food then you know something is wrong. i will never buy ol roy dog food again. and i advise you do the same, for your dogs sake.

  24. Lynn M. says:

I dont know why people are so hateful.

When I was 17, and was having a hard time affording myself, I went from science diet to ol roy for my GSD dog. I didnt like it, but if I intended on keeping my dog, I had to buy dog food with what money I had, and that was ol roy.

Even though I didnt like it, I have to admitt, he was just as lively and everything else as he ever was and was healthy and never had a problem. Tht does not by far say that this food is good, cause its not. But its food. Just like if you have to feed your kid mac and cheese for a week just to get to the next pay check, its not great food, but its food, and thats what happens when you dont have money.

As for the dogs, they deserve to keep a home. Idealy, we would all love to buy the best food for our dogs. But if the choice is… take your dog to the pound where they will be put down, or keep them and use this product till money gets better, well, I think even the dogs would wnt to stay alive.

I am 38 now and many dogs later, I can say that I have gone to Max. It has allways done very well for my K9 buddies. But sadly, we are in a money crunch. Really bad. We had started to mix purina with Max so that we can keep them on it at least some. Now, for my 2 girls, I have no choice but to go to ol roy. I just have no choice. There is no way I could possibly give up my girls. I have had them since a puppy, and Im not giving up on them. A friend of mine, going through the same thing, her dog is doing fine with the switch, and he is not sick. He runs around with my dogs and are even stronger then they are. I hope to go back to Max before long, but I am no longer beating myself over the head for wanting to continue to take care of my girls.

There are vitamin packets that you can buy to add to your dog food. I have that, and am going to continue with it because it gives me feel a little better, knowing that I am still doing the best I can.

  25. Marsha says:

My dog is allergic to chicken. It makes him itch, his fur fall out and causes skin sores. I know this because when I took him completely off chicken he got better. I cannot afford the expensive dog food right now, and am looking for something better than Old Roy, but cannot find something that I can afford. So will try it, and keep looking. It is very difficult to find dry or canned dog food without poultry ingredients. Also, my dad used to haul for a dog food company, and “chicken” by products include the feathers, and the crap they scrape off the chicken coup floor, including the hay, Last time I looked this was not nutritious. I know that the “rules” say that this stuff is not suppose to be put into the dog food, but it is used anyway. Old Roy performance has the first ingredient as “meat and bone meal” and there is no chicken anywhere, so I’m going to try it until something better comes along. Or I find a job.

  26. Jan says:

We bought Ol Roy Round Dog food in the U.S. and can’t find it in Canada. It is great dog food as there is no corn in it. Does anyone know where you can buy it. Walmart near us doesn’t carry it but maybe you know where you can get it. Thanks.

  27. Bruce says:

I think a lot of negative comment about Ol’ Roy is more political (there is a political movement against Wal-Mart because they arn’t union) than based on fact. Yes the lower priced Ol’ Roy products arn’t very good but the High Performance label stacks up better than some of the high priced name dog food. My dogs are doing just fine on it and are hunting dogs. Like one of the other comments, exercise has alot to due with better health than than most other things.

  28. chester says:

not one person here seems to be doing there home work except a few of you.. why dont you all let your dogs loose for a while and let them be dogs as they were intended to be,eat what they want to eat for a few months .and when they come back sick and malnurished then see how they look after eating a nice big bowl of olroy. if you are so worried about what they are eating stop feeding them dogfood and cook them a nice fillet or half a chicken everynight like you do for your family. ya thats what i said .dogs have addapted to eat all the crap we feed them from ol roy to science diet to the orijen that sells for 30.00 per 15 pnd bag.
feed your dog olroy is better then no roy or no orijen dont underfeed overfeed let them run. half of you probably let your dogs set on there asses all day home alone. and are to lazy to play with them or take them for a walk like most americans(look it up)
my point is all dog food is is better then other food. dogs were wolves till we came along and messed it up for them.feed your dog a steak or raw chicken see what that does to them see how sick they get they cant eat all that now so….. (dont do it!) so if you feed your dog ol roy good at least there getting food and yes they are getting some nutrition ya ask a vet!

  29. jeanie says:

My mom’s dog loves ol’roy beef and gravy and other ol’roy foods and treats

  30. Patti says:

1st of all, the AAFCO is a JOKE, just like the FDA. Chemical preservatives are approved for use in food, despite the scientific FACT that they can cause cancer, liver damage, and ALL sorts of other problems. The AAFCO approves food for dogs and cats, whom are CARNIVORES (which means, they are MEAT EATERS for those who do not know), that are nothing but corn, corn gluten meal, soy, by-products and other crappy ingredients.

Dogs and cats need REAL MEAT. They were not intended to eat grains, muchless dry cereal every day of their lives. If you want to feed cereal, at least feed something that is healthy, with real food ingredients – Orijen and Acana are good choices, and there’s more out there.

It’s important to educate yourself as a pet parent as to what your pet is supposed to eat – what God (or whomever you believe in) designed them for.

To those posting nutritional percentages, IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THAT. READ THE INGREDIENTS!!! Sure, corn has protein, but it has a low biological value and cannot even be digested by a carnivore.

And to those who say Ol Roy is good food, you probably think eating at Mickey Dee’s and drinking sodas with every meal is healthy, too. That junk food will catch up to your health – and your pet’s health – in the long run. Dogs and cats did not get cancer, diabetes, and other “human” ailments until they started eating overprocessed, garbage-ingredients kibble. If you think about what your pet would eat if he or she was still a wild animal, it would not be corn or any grain for that matter! It would be raw meat… a rabbit, bird, fox, squirrel, etc.

  31. Jackie says:

The most important thing to remember is to look for the AAFCO seal of approval when buying dog food. One should read this book before making claims of what is bad and good in dog food. Understanding what bone meal and chicken by-products by definition really helps when one reads the labels. Also, to see if the food meets AAFCO requirements or AAFCO feed testing is another way to grade your dog’s food. Just like humans are experiencing more allergies so are our dogs. That is why some dogs do okay with inexpensive foods while others require different ingredients. I find it funny to watch people buy dog food without corn but buy a big bag of cheap dog biscuits. Dog biscuits are basically dog food cooked into a shape. if your dog truly has allergies, the owner needs to find out what the dog is allergic to. He could be allergic to wheat and every day when you give him that crust of bread causes his allergies to flare. Owners than would blame the dog food when in fact it was not. Advertisers have made millions making us believe in what is good and what is not. Read the standards set by AAFCO and than make your decision. But whatever one feeds to your best friend do not do what so many pet owners do. Killing your pet slowly by overfeeding no matter what you buy your best friend.

I have been feeding my dog Ol’Roy dog food for 12 years now, healthy ,shiny coat, and very active.Ihave checked it against some of the more expensive brands and the ingredients are the same if not better,.I could not afford to feed them a more expensive product ,not that I would want to.I am interested if there is an Ol Roy senior product in Canada. I love my dogs and cats dearly and have never had a problem with them.

  33. Cora says:

Dog are not addicted to sugar and every Dog food has bone meal in it and CORN, and the “high Quality” Brands Of dog food have the same stuff in it, You dogs are getting sick either they already had the problem or its from switching their food so much or just switching it with out the time for their bodies to adjust to the new dog food, My dogs use to eat pro plan, and my fathers dog kibbles and bits, the vet said that is like giving you sog mc D’d everyday! And Not once has the vet told me that OLD Roy Is bad for my dogs, So no one should take anyones advice but their vets, and it doesnt mean you care any less about you animal just because the food you give it, you people should feel bad just because you got cheap and wanted to change their food to save a dollar, we feed them it because they like it not to save a buck.

    • Sarah says:

What are you talking about?? R u seriously suggesting all dog food has corn and bone&meat meal?????????? Seriously? Lemme tell you I feed my dog orijen and there are no such things

Orijen senior diet ingredients WORD FOR WORD: deboned chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, russet potato, deboned salmon, herring meal, sweet potatoes, peas, deboned lake white fish, salmon meal, deboned walleye, chicken liver, deboned turkey, chicken fat (naturally preserved with vitamin E and citric acid), whole eggs, deboned herring, sun-cured alfalfa, salmon oil, chicory root, dehydrated

      • Sandy says:

Yep, Orijen is what I feed too, but I feed the Regional Red to our adult dog and the Senior to our old gal. We already had her on a high-quality food (one that inluded grain), but I was really astonished in how much better she felt once we switched her to Orijen Senior. Yes, it’s expensive, but so is almost everything else that is worthwhile. I’d take on an extra job if I had to in order to afford it, rather than feed a grain-laden food with by-products. Anyway, no grains of any kind in the Orijen products. You can check it out yourself at championpetfoods.com

  34. Erin says:

Old Roy really is worse than garbage. While I sympathize about financial issues, it’s really better to buy meat on sale, eggs, yogurt and some decent dog food and mix that together than to feed it. Or even a homemade diet w/o the dangerous fillers is better than that poison.I have tried everything from Old Roy to Solid Gold and raw barf diets. It really doesn’t pay to scrimp on cheap, dangerous food. Each time I tried to save money I ended up regretting it-feed the best you can-also most of the time the cheap food requires a lot more cups per day -you may think you’re saving money but aren’t in the end due to the volume you have to feed. It’s false economy.
By the way, everyone throwing stones and judging others, that’s not helpful or educational. People generally do the best they can with the knowledge and resources they have. Lets educate and support instead of throwing stones please. We all know more today than yesterday- and we have all done things we regret later.

    • jc says:

Meat, eggs and yogurt are things I will eat, not the dog. Ol’ Roy is just fine and s hardly ‘dangerous’. Get a clue.

  35. Rita says:

I shake my head every time I see people toss bags of Ol’Roy into their carts. The person who produced this product either didn’t/doesn’t have pets or gives two cents about them and their health.

If you ask me this product is a cash grab for the inventor and couldn’t give a crap about it’s value or the health of our pets.

If people can’t afford to buy a decent brand of food with the right ingredients for their pets development then they shouldn’t have a pet.

    That’s just my 2cents!!

  36. Dorothy says:

I fed my Papillons Old Roy & my baby girl developed a terrible allergic reaction – her ears got all infected & smelled awful. The vet said no question about it, it was a food allergy.

I have tried to find dogfood without corn, but it is a huge challenge. Right now, the only thing my little girl can eat is is the hugely expensive Prescription D/D food.

So much for trying to save a few bucks…Mom was right, you get what you pay for!

    • concerned says:

There are fantastic corn/wheat/soy free foods on the market. Most of them are sold at smaller pet food stores but that does not mean they are over priced. I live in Canada so the prices my be slightly different (higher/lower) where you are. Whole Earth Farms (is made by Merrick) has a fantastic ingredient list (Chicken meal, turkey meal, oat meal, pearled barley, ground rice, ground millet, ground barley, chicken fat (naturally preserved), duck, etc.) and is very affordable at $14.99 for a 7lb bag. Lifetime is another great brand that has great single protein (chicken, lamb, fish or large breed) formulas that are corn, wheat and soy free. A 30 lb bag retails for $39.99. Most of these brands also offer loyalty programs through local retailers, if you buy 10-12 bags you will receive a free bag. Visit there websites to find a retailer near you!

      • jc says:

HAHA!! $14.99 for a 7lb bag is ‘very affordable’? I don’t know what world you live in. Ol’ Roy is a fine food. Maybe not as good as some, but you eat what you can afford, and the same goes for animals. I have had numerous animals over the years, and some had cheap food, while others had expensive brands, with no noticeable difference between the two. Don’t be afraid to buy Ol’ Roy. All of the parts of the animals in the slaughterhouse have to be used somewhere, so a natural solution would be to feed it to animals including dogs and cats. There is nothing wrong with animals eating by-products and meals.

  37. tina brown says:

I love my pets. I am disabled and have to live on $700. a month. Ol Roy dog food is the most inexpensive dog food. They really like the Kibbles,Chunks, and Chews. The only problem with it is there isn’t enough of the white pieces in it. They are healthy, active, and seem to be doing well. I eat very cheap food due to my budget. Some of us who have companions can’t feed them as well as we want to. My girls are my life. I do the best I can on what I have, and Ol Roy makes it possible for me to share my love with someone, even if it is a dog.

  38. My 3 girls says:

I want to ask if anyone’s dog ever had an allergic reaction to Ol’ Roy? Although we cannot afford the ‘premium’ dog foods out there, believe it or not, we love our girls (three dogs), and try to take them to the vet at least yearly. We decided to try Ol’ Roy, mixed with Beneful. Now they are only taking Ol’ Roy, and I thought our eldest girl, a shelter dog, who we’re guessing is 10-11, waz thriving on it. That was, until yesterday. Her eye was swolen, half closed. We called the vet. By the time last night came, both eyes, and her jowls were swolen. I called emergency vet service who told me to give her benedryl, which I did. A little better this morning, and we went to our vet. Needless to say, we are getting the girls back on beneful or dog chow asap. Not saying Ol’ Roy is bad, but to save a few dollars, we had to see our vet,$100+, and one of our girls is on medication for allergic swelling. Sorry for the long text, but has anyone else had this experience??

  39. I feed my dog Ol roy and it works great! I have a female american pitt with a great coat and muscle build. She had soft stool at first but that happens when you switch a dog food any time, straight from one to the other, you are suppose to slowly mix them together so the dog can get use to it slowly over time. Each time you feed les of the original and more of the new until you are feeding one hundred percent new. Its not hard just do it over a week at least.

  40. Shell says:

I breed and rescue German Shepherds, I also do dog nutritional counseling and work at a pet food store. I see a lot of people calling Ol’ Roy “CRAP” dog food but on both accounts that are presently being stated all it is, is hear say. I suggest to anybody to do real research on your dog food. For example Ol’ Roy Kibbles Chunks & Chews ingredients:Ground Yellow Corn, This is a common allergen for dogs, causing itching, ear infections, shedding ect. it also will irritate the intestines which can turn in to cancer and is digested as a sugar in the body thus the reason for so many more dogs becoming diabetics. Soybean Meal is what’s left over after taking the oil out of the the bean, it is a plant form hormone, and counts as a protein but not utilizable to your dog because he is a carnivore. Whole Wheat causes a lot of the same problems as corn does. It is a cheep filler but still a big allergen to dogs (as it is often in people), Beef Meal This is a good ingredient!, High Fructose Corn Syrup just like with people, animals will get addicted to their food because of the corn syrup and will cause them to eat excessively and it can do one of two things. Your dog will loss weight because it is not getting what it needs nutritionally but gives them hyper activity or it will mess up the insulin in the body which causes them to be over weight and again become diabetics. This is something you should check into people food and the destruction it is doing to the health of our nation. Animal Fat (Preserved With Bha) BHA is proven to cause cancer in people but FDA approval is so low that you can still preserve your dog food with it. It is also known to case liver problems. Chicken By-Product Meal this is intestine, feet and feathers, what ever we don’t use and again even though it is a protein it is not well digested by the body. Water, Corn Gluten Meal Here again in corn and Corn Gluten Mean is the best part of the corn but it should not be the main sores of protein like it is in this product because again your dog is a carnivore. This product also has artificial flavors and coloring which are a carcinogenic and cause more kidney and liver issues. Another thing you can look up that is also affecting our nations health.
Just because you feed Ol’ Roy does not mean that you don’t love your dog its just that you have been misinformed about the product which is every common with all of the false advertising. Everything that i have written you can find information online for and if you have any questions do feel free to ask. If you do switch your dog will get sick for about a week because their body has to purge everything out and start again just like with people but just because they are purging doesn’t mean that its not the best thing to do. Most dogs will get past this state in a few days and some a few weeks. All dogs should receive a pro-biotic when switching foods to re balance the intestine. If your dog continue with an overly loss stool an anti-diarrhea medicine.

I fed my puppies ol roy soft puppy food and 4 of them have died. They have only ate this for a week and it was 2 cans split between 8 dogs once a day. They also had puppy chow that they ate whenever they wanted. How can walmart sell this stuff to people? Its animal cruelty. I think that the stuff you buy from stores shouldn’t kill or make dogs sick. I held 2 of my puppies in my arms while they suffered and died that will haunt me forever! I’m only 21 and can’t afford to take 8 puppies to the vet. I feel so bad!!!! If I would have known about this dog food now way would I have bought it!

    • TMT says:

Died of what Jacy ? It sounds like they were not given the proper shots and died of one of the many diseases which could have killed them at their age. I live in Ky. where you can go to the feed store and buy the vaccines pretty cheap. It’s the same in Florida where I live part of the year. I give my guys their own shots because I can not afford the Vet either. I seriously doubt the food was the culprit !

      • mary says:

I have 3 dogs that have eatten ol’roy their whole lives and are very healthy. I had 9 puppies that when I started them on moist food (weaning) were givin ol’roy. They all thrived, im inclined to say that there must have been another problem with the puppies you had. Ol’roy has been a good food for my dogs 1 rott, 2 pits.I have also kept up with my pups that left and they have all done well. They are all very healthy and fat actually. The pup I kept is 85lbs, so This food is doing him justice they get excellent vet reviews. To each their own but I’ve had a good experience with this dog food. They go through 44lbs in 2 weeks.I do love my dogs.

  42. Linda Finnegan says:

I agree that dog foods where the first ingredient is corn is not a good idea. Some of Ol’ Roy is like that. Ol’Roy Skin and Coat starts with lamb meal and corn is the fourth ingredient. That ingredient list sounds better than some of the expensive pet store brands. Read labels and find about 3 good dog foods that agree with your dog and rotate or mix them. That insures that your dog will get all his nutrients. Ol’ Roy Skin and Coat is one of the foods that I mix. Another is Petsmart’s Authority Brand. Lamb meal is the first ingredient in both of these formulas. Good does not have to be expensive. For a third food I use Diamond Lamb and Rice.

  43. GSP says:

to say too all or everyone i am not sure, but i didn’t heard anyone mentioning that they first tried to mixed the food(ol roy) slowly with the regular brand of food(previous left over dog food before thinking about buying some new food) instead of throwing the new food into the dog face?

    • GSP says:

for got to add that in doing so with just throwing in the new food,This is were we have diarrhea, vomit, weird stools, upset stomach, and all these other stuff due to a fast changed of dog food,But just to make sure of old Roy foods,my thoughts are be pulled down so i think im on the masses of negativing old Roy.so can anyone help me as to were i can throw away my last bag of ol Roy,so far its my first and i was about to change it to that but luckily i caught this forum thank goodness.now im thinking pedigree(or is that bad too).Is there some place or wat animals i can give this dog food away, costed me 7 dollars i can expect to see 7 quality out of my dog,i need 100%.

      • Jes2323 says:

As I said before, Pedigree is just as bad! I use Wellness for my dog he loves it and I love the I ngredients.

        • ryan says:

You should talk to your local dog food seller about a new food. There are so much better foods than wellness for about the same price. Wellness is very well marketed, but a bit overpriced :)

  44. Martha Pratt says:

Are the medium sized Ol Roy dog biscuits still available? We are having trouble finding them. The small ones are too small and the large ones are too large to put in her Kong.

  45. Erin says:

For those of you whose dogs ‘won’t eat anything else’ or ‘have never turned off of Ol’ Roy like other foods’, know that unlike high quality foods Ol’ Roy contains sugar. Dogs love sugar and will refuse to eat foods without it once they are used to it. Does it make it good for them? Absolutely not.

The ingredients in Ol’ Roy are junk. If you have deluded yourself into thinking that this is healthy for your dog, please be my guest and feed it to them. Just know that you are feeding a food that is ‘good enough’ to keep them alive (and in some cases NOT). You aren’t doing your dog any favors. The poster above had it right…it’s like eating Fruit Loops everyday, all day. Fruit Loops are fortified with vitamins and minerals. It has small amounts of fiber. It’s enough to keep you alive, but it’s not good for you.

Eventually the money you save on dog food will be spent at the vet. And just like if you lived off of Fruit Loops, your dogs life will be shortened.

  46. carla says:

I feed my little dogs ol’roy moist food, I’ve looked at the ingredients and they are exactly the same (word for word) as Purina’s Top Choice moist dog food, they are packaged and even shaped exactly the same. I truly believe they are made by Purina!
My little dogs are old and have almost no teeth and this is one of the few foods they like, they turn their noses up at canned food!
I also have 1 big dog who would rather give up eating her own food just to steal the little dogs food!

  47. kat says:

    HI
I HAVE TO AGREE WITH GERMAN SHEPPERD LADY HERE!
i usually get high priced good quality food , but recently got 2 dogs that used to be on the ol roy brand , though i would do some good by switching them to “better “food, but as soon as they stoppped eating ol roy , they simply stopped eating and yes i know how to make the transition , so long story short i am noe re-feedig them the 28% protein and 20% fat and there a lot happier

  48. Dogs n Cats says:

We recently bought a bag of dry Old Roy for our dogs just because it was a good bit cheaper than the brand that we normally buy. Both of our dogs got terribly sick after eating this food. Lots of vomiting and just lying around for a couple of days. We immediately went back to the more expensive brand and have had no problems since. We threw the bag of Old Roy away and won’t purchase this brand again.

    • AJ says:

Did it occur to you thatthey may have disliked it after having it for the first time b/c it was the first time. I just got a puppy and everything I’ve read says that when switching to a new dog food youhave to wean your dog off of the other one as an abrupt switch will likely affect their digestion and eating habits.

I’m currently feeding Dark Ol’ Roy puppy formula. She’s had no problems with it. I will be switching to another brand, likely puppy chow, as there is enough debate going on for me to wonder. But for you to say this brand is garbage b/c your dogs didn’t like it the first time after being use to something else, is a little outrageous.

  49. Cheryl says:

My dog has been on Ol’ Roy High Performance dry food for 11 yrs. and the 2 years before that she was on Ol’Roy puppy food. She is a boxer mix. Never been sick has a beautiful coat, happy and playful, sometimes seems like she is still a pup. I would not feed her anything else. She loves her food. And has always been at an ideal weight.

  50. crystal says:

some olroy dog food is produced by dads dogfood. so u are wrong…

  51. Jarrid Best says:

Whatever anyone says, it is pure and simple. This is the cheapest, lowest quality, worst food available. Point blank. I wouldn’t feed my dog Ol’ Roy if he were starving. I’d throwup in his mouth before I fed this crap. Sugar in it’s first ingredients? SUGAR? Give me a break. Junk junk junk. The worst ever. It’s like eating Mcdonalds everyday for the rest of your life. I love my dog too much. Blue Buffalo for me. Ol’ Roy is a joke. It’s for cheapskates who don’t wanna pay for dog food. Don’t have a dog if you can’t afford it. This food is poision. I hate it as much as I hate Rush Limbaugh.

  52. Suzanne Reep says:

Ol Roy is a terrible dog food. Dogs are meat eaters and Ol Roy has little edible meat. The first four incredients in dog food should be a good meat source, preferably chicken, beef, duck meal, or something similar. The next ingredient should be another identifiable meat soure like Chicken, third ingredient could be brown rice or something similar or a meat. Any fillers are bad for dogs. Dogs are not cows and corn is hard on their kidneys and other organs. Dogs will not normally thrive on poor dog food. Dog food should never contain meat meal, sugar, or other fillers. After 15 years years of dog rescue, the dogs that we take in who have been on Ol Roy or something similar are in very poor condition.

    Suzanne

    • Jes2323 says:

If a first ingredient is chicken meal, it is better than chicken. This is a fact. All ingredients in dog food need to be dehydrated first. That’s all chicken meal, or any other meat meal is. Most animals are 80% water, so if the first ingredient in a dog food is chicken, that means the company weighed it BEFORE they dehydrated it. So after it is dehydrated then any grains or other fillers surpass it in weight.

  53. Joyce says:

I love my dogs – I take larger breeds that need a country home to live on our farm – at present we have 3 dogs well over 85 lbs. and they thrive on Ol Roy Food -dry food – they are active, healthy with shiny coats and bright eyes -they range in age from 2 to 13 years old- our newest dog arrived in Jan and has blossomed on the regular meals – he has gained weight and become active and happy with life – he is a totally different dog than when he arrived – any visit to the vet receives comments on what great shape these dogs are in and we are high on their list for large dogs that need to be rehomed – I have fed many dog foods over the years to our dogs and this is the only brand that they didn’t ‘go off’eating from

  54. Patricia says:

I disagree completely with the statement that I do not care or love my dog because I feed him Ol’ Roy. I have a German Shepherd dog that I love more than my own life, and I have fed him nearly every brand of dog food on the market. I have fed him all natural foods, I have even fed him Royal Canin specially formulated for German Shepherds. German Shepherds tend to suffer from dry skin, which mine does have, and none of these foods helped with the problem. I started feeding him Ol’ Roy High Performance dry food, and his dry skin went away, his coat became thicker and more glossy. He doesn’t itch at all anymore. There are no problems with his stool, or his health. So to say people are cheap and do not love or care about their dogs simply because they feed them Ol’ Roy, is ridiculous. My dogs quality of life has improved since I started feeding him this food. He doesn’t sit around scratching all of the time, which is a miserable way to live. Although this food works for my dog, it does not mean it will work for every dog. Dogs are like people, what is good for one does not mean it is good for all. I would gladly donate a bag of Ol’ Roy to starving dogs. I’m sure the dogs would much rather have a bowl of Ol’ Roy rather than nothing at all.

    • Troy says:

Your entire statement is nonsense. Your dogs health, IF it is improving, is NOT because of Ol’ Roy dog food. You don’t get better when you eat bottom of the barrel ingredients, neither would your dog. There may be other factors affecting his health. I agree with those that say if you are so cheap that you would feed your dog this CRAP food then you really don’t care very much about your pet.

    • John says:

Patricia,I completely agree with you. There is alot of bashing of the Ol Roy brand on this page. However if you do the homework on the brand you will find that Ol Roy Hi Performance is of very good quality. I too have a German Shepherd and he is now 6 years old. I have been feeding him Ol Roy Hi Performance since he was one year old. Generally pure bred dogs have very sensitive digestive systems. So I consulted with my veternarian and he agreed that Ol Roy Hi Performance food is great for my dog.

The thing many posters on this site fail to realize is that Ol Roy makes a variety of dry and wet foods. Of the dry foods the Hi Performance is the top rated. I have been buying it for years and in the past 5 years it has come to cost $22.88 per 50lb bag. If you really want to know how Ol Roy matches up to other top name dog foods such as Iams and Science Diet, I challenge readers to look at the nutritional information on Ol Roy High Performance and compare them to other foods. Ol Roy High Performance:
      Crude Protein, min……..26.00%
      Crude Fat, min…………14.00%
      Crude Fiber, max……….4.00%
      Moisture, max………….12.00%
      Linoleic Acid, min………1.50%

      Iams Proactive Health Large Breed
      Guaranteed Analysis
      Crude Protein, minimum 23.0
      Crude Fat, minimum 13.0
      Crude Fat, maximum 16.0
      Crude Fiber, maximum 5.0
      Moisture, maximum 10.0

Overall Hi Proformance is a great dog food with excellent nutritional value for my dog, and I highly reccomend.

      Thanks!
      John

      • concerned says:

Comparing the guaranteed analysis tells you nothing unless you see where the protein, fat, fiber, etc. is coming from. You must list ingredients to make this a viable comparison. Iams and Science Diet are better than some but by no means a high quality dog food (and both are over priced). Top dog food brands include: Acana/Orijin, Go Natural, Fromm, Oven-Baked, Taste of the Wild, etc. If your looking for the best value for quality…Whole Earth Farms and Lifetime are excellent choices.

      • Jes2323 says:

See you have it wrong because science diet and Pedigree are just as crappy! OL’ Roy is horrible for your dog, dogs need meat, not corn meal! I would say anyone who bought this food is either uncaring, ignorant, or downright stupid!

      • Cat says:

1st, Iams is a terrible food as well, Hills is worse, and ol’ roy is awful. Compare it to foods like Orijen, Acana, Natural Balance, First Mate, Chicken soup for the dog lovers soul, Blue buffalo etc etc… The INGREDIENTS in Ol’ Roy are terrible. There is no named protien ( Meat and bone meal) so it can be ANY animal, it can be from roadkill, diseased or disabled animals, it could be other cats and dogs from shelter kills. Also, there is so much corn and soy in this food, it is NOT something dogs can even use. It is also preserved with BHA, which is a carcinogen (cancer causing). Please, do research before feeding your animal, foods like this are killing them. Yes, some dogs can live forever on this crap, just like some people can drink and smoke every day and live off of pizza.. But it is living, not thriving. The reason dogs like this food is because the corn makes it sweet, if you have a kid, they want to eat candy all the time too.. It doesn’t mean you should let them! I work at an all natural pet food store, and have spent a long time researching this area. Please. If you don’t believe me, research it for yourself. Your dog will live a longer, healthier life, and you will feel better actually knowing what is in the foods you feed your animals.

I too have a German Shepherd and she is the finickiest eater I have ever had in a dog. When I bred Rotts they would eat pedigree dry without any problem but not this dog she won’t touch dry alone I have to mix it. I use merricks dry, 3/4 cup in the a.m. mixed with a can of ole roy,and the same in the evening. She loves the ole roy. to me it looked just like the blue buffalo that i was paying almost 2 bucks a can for, i just can’t afford to feed her blue buffalo everyday.

I am amazed at how she loves ole roy and she is very active too. I am going to continue this ole roy and merrick dry as long as she like it and dosen’t have any other problems.

I totally agree with you..!! I love my dogs as much as my children & they live Old Roy high performance.. THEY actually chose it over the more expensive brands.. So, obviously it tastes good & they r very healthy & happy.. Homerun to u.!!

This food is CRAP!!!!! I have never used it and have never needed to, to know that its complete SHIT!!! ALL of the people I know with their dogs on it are visibly under weight, sick, unhealthy, losing fur or has very dry skin, itches constantly, has fading hair (meaning not a shiny coat of hair) and just all around look horrible!!! I ONLY suggest this food to anyone who does not love, care, or who does not have a heart!!! I wouldn’t even donate a bag of this food to starving animals in shelters!!!! Terrible terrible terrible!!!!! And just because it has certain vitamins in it doesn’t mean anything!!!!! If you could spend an extra few pennies out od your jewish pockets to buy holistics dog food and compare your dogs health, shine, skin, energy level, stools and other things, so will see an immense difference!!!!!!

    • nicole says:

This is funny, because I’ve worked at several animal shelters and not a single one fed the dogs ol’ roy. People donate it, but it gets thrown out because it is complete crap and the dogs would get so sick, which is the last thing they (the dogs and the shelter) need.

funny because i just got a pit from the shelter and she wouldnt anything iwould give her. i then got ol’roy and shes never looked healthier. my 15 year old pit has been on this food his whole life and hes still up and going acting just like a pup

I’m appalled to here that a shelter would toss out any food. Let me tell ya, my dog has been eating this food all his life. I’ve tried the other high end brands and he ends up being very sick. This is the only dog food his digestive systems seems to be able to handle. He is a great dog (Beagle) very healthy and very active!!!

I have 8 beagles lab mix and thay all eat ol roy every since their first hard bite of dogfood nothing els they love the food so much they even play soccer with the red balls and sort all the colors out with no trick teaching.

My dogs eat this all the time. Because they eat this I am able to take them yearly to the vet for shots, heart worm test and any yearly needs. Because they eat this I can give them heart worm preventive and flea preventive year round. They are both healthy and happy dogs that are much loved. The only issue is the larger dog has a milk allergy. Keep the milk products out of her diet and she does great. Now I said all this and not once did I use the poor choice of language you used.

Total agree, I have just had a terrible experenice with this so call dog food, I would not feed it to a HOG, they can and will eat anything! I have contacted the company only to be told nothing could be wrong with this food (if that what they want to call it). I will never use it again and will be telling everyone I can.

I don’t use this food myself for my dogs, they prefer a different brand.. However, my Aunt has used Ol Roy for many years.. Her dog Duke is now 19 & very healthy, never had a health issue or any other problems some foods may cause.. I wish everyone would be opened minded & realize all dog foods have to supply all the nutrients for a healthy life.. Unless the dog needs a prescription diet or has allergies, I see nothing wrong with using a cheaper brand.. Duke’s shiny happiness & shiny coat should explain it all.. To each his own i guess.. God Bless..

    • Brittany says:

Krissi what is wrong with you? you have NO right to tell any one that they dont love their dogs just because they feed their dogs ol roy. i feed my dogs ol roy and they all have shiny coats and are all VERY active. I have 7 dogs and they are all happy and active and they have shiny coats. my oldest dog is a 6 year old lab, boykin mix and she has been eating ol roy her whole life and shes healthy and happy. i love my dogs very much and i would do any thing for them. im 15 and all my money that i earn goes into any thing they need. So dont ever tell me i dont love my dogs.

For the last 6 months my shsi tzu has been eating ol`roy canned food, i bought for boxes of 12 cans on sunday april 24 and monday april 26 she started to to soft stool and she continued to do so until thursday wich is the day that things started to go even worse, she has diarrhea since thursday april 29 and hasn`t stopped since and since saturday night may 1st she strated to vomit. Know she is 11 years old was never this sick is always up to date with her vaccines and with this last batch of canned food she got sick. I want to know if anyone had this experience with their dog, because i just don`t know what is going on with my sweet dog. I`m thinking of getting this batch to a lab for analysis.

My dog likes Ol’Roy dog food, especially the Meaty Loaf which has New York Strip flavor in meaty juices. But no where on the can does it show the amount of Ash or Taurine. I worry about these 2 being too high and bad for my dog. No where in the ingredients listed is there any corn meal or ground yellow corn. It contains a lot of vitamins and minerals- more than I’ve seen in other brands.

    • Troy says:

You must not like your dog very much to feed them that garbage. Seriously, would you feed your kids fruitloops cereal every day for their entire lifetime? Hopefully not, because you know its not healthy for them. Why people think feeding Ol’ Roy is any better for their dogs is beyond me. The price alone should be a big smack in the head that the quality of the ingredients is very poor.
