Pinnacle brand dog food formulas are manufactured by Breeder’s Choice Pet Foods. Breeder’s Chioce has been making pet food products for over 60 years. In addition to producing Pinnacle dog food formulas, Breeder’s Choice also makes AvoDerm Natural, Advanced Pet Diets Select Choice and Active Care dog food. Breeder’s Choice is a division of Central Garden and Pet Company.

Pinnacle dog food formulas are mostly designed for all life stages, having feeding guidelines for both puppies and adult dogs. Due to the high protein content of some of these formulas, however, they may not be suitable for senior dogs. There are currently only three bag sizes for Pinnacle brand dog food formulas: a small 1.5 lb bag, a medium 7.5 lb bag and a large 30 lb bag.

- Pinnacle Holistic Chicken and Oats Dry Formula is the only Pinnacle formula that has a mix of dehydrated vegetables included. The first five ingredients of this formula are chicken meal, chicken, whole oat flour, tomato pomace and fresh potato. Other ingredients include chicken fat, organic quinoa, peas, broccoli, garlic, spinach, carrot flakes, cottage cheese and dried egg product. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 25% protein and 15% fat.
- Pinnacle Holistic Trout and Sweet Potato Dry Formula is a limited ingredient formula that may be used for dogs with food allergies. The first five ingredients of this formula are trout, oatmeal, herring meal, oat flour and canola oil. Other ingredients include sweet potato, flax seed, organic quinoa, rosemary extract, vitamin E, sage extract, potassium chloride, vitamin B12, amino acids, niacin and ferrous sulfate. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 22% protein and 10% fat.
- Pinnacle Holistic Duck and Potato Dry Formula is a limited ingredient formula that may be used for dogs with food allergies. The first five ingredients of this formula are duck meal, potatoes, oatmeal, duck and oat flour. Other ingredients include canola oil, potato fiber, flax seed, vitamin B complex, folic acid, papain, rosemary extract, sage extract, copper amino acid chelate, copper sulfate and vitamin D3. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 23% protein and 13% fat.
- Pinnacle Peak Protein Dry Formula is a grain free formula that is high in protein, while low in carbohydrates. The first five ingredients of this formula are chicken meal, chicken, potatoes, oats and chicken fat. Other ingredients include tomato pomace, salmon oil, dried egg product, organic quinoa, rosemary extract, sage extract, vitamin E supplement, papain, calcium carbonate and copper amino acid chelate. The Guaranteed Analysis of this formula contains 42% protein and 22% fat.

Customer reviews of Pinnacle brand dog food formulas are mostly positive. The formulas seem to be well received by dogs that have sensitive stomachs, especially the formulas that have limited ingredients. However, a few dog owners stated that their dogs developed smelly gas on the Pinnacle trout formula. Some dogs also seemed to have to be coerced into eating Pinnacle dog food, while others needed no motivation to eat their dog food formulas.

I started using the Pinnicale brand because my daughter’s Boglen (which I care for all the time) was dispalying allergic reactions to grains. I like the hollistic approach since we eat organic as well. I adopted a Chaweagle in July and a Boxer mix in September of 2011. Since I feed all three puppies together, they all eat Pinnicale Turkey and Potato. They all seem to love it…no problems with gas. My only concern has been on the nurtient end….both the Boxer mix and Boglen developed “puppy mange” (not contagious) at teh same time. This condition is due to poor immune support. I have since added a vitamin supplement to thier diets. All seems to be well.
I have 3 Shih-Tzus. Allergies! Switched to Pinnacle Trout & Sweet Potatoes. NO more red ears, No more scratching, sneezing etc. You may order through Petflow online. Set up auto ship. Less than at Petco and they have free delivery to the house. Those 30# bags are nice when the delivery man comes right to the kitchen door.
I have a Great Dane and a Yellow Lab and been feeding the Pinnacle Trout formula to both of them for about two years. They were both recues and in bad condition, but now they look great and their coats are full and shiny. The dogs love it and I am Really happy with the product. May try the Chicken and Oats to blend in for a change.
When I rescued a german shepherd the lady who had the dog recommended Pinnacle. I feed my dogs the duck and potato formula, and they love the food. My only complaint is you have to order it on-line. PETCO seems to offer the best deal and they will have it on sale occasionally through their website.
